I have been doing this for about a month on my bench press doing 8 reps 6 reps then 3 to 4 reps to two reps after failure is this good or will it wreck my muscles in the long run.

JUST SHY OF FAILURE!
What kinda talk is that, sounds like something an old man would say!
Man, if u wanna stimulate good muschle growth and gain mass, you should always lift to failure, except on the warm-up set off course.
If i understood u correctly, u said that u do 8 reps after failure sometimes. Thats excecive, my personal opinion is that u shouldnt do more than 2.

No one can go 'past' muscular failure on any sets except with legs, lower back and lats. Try going past failure doing curls, aint going to happen. If you go past failure then that means you have no idea what failure is, because you shouldnt be able to do anymore, hence the name..Need info on abbreviated training? Follow the link below!

there's no reason for a newbie to
ge using "HIGH INTENSITY" techniques
FAILURE
FORCED REPS
BREAKDOWNS
BURNS
PARTIALS
gains come quickly with minimum effort in the beginning enjoy it
will it lasts! save the INTENSITY
for later because you'll need it.
~back to basics~
What do you consider a newbie I have been lifting for 2 years

hmmm...my bad!
i thought he said he had been benching for just a month.
by all means crank it up!! i still don't think you shouldn't trap your self into going to failure on every set.

Nah I have been going to failure for a month but been lifting for 2 years

Please tell me you don't actually mean that! I suppose you're going to advocate high reps light weight to burn fat, and leg extensions to build detail in the quads.
Peace.

Naa ...just moderate weight will do...with short rest periods and drop sets.....big bump on the leg extensions...great detail..especially around the knees

1-3 reps shy of failure is often just as good or better then hitting muscular failure, its also better towards preventing burnout.
I only ever take a set to failure on the very last set ....works for me but there are people here who seem to be telling me it doesn't!

If you can go to 8 reps past falure you never hit falure in the first place. I think a lot of people rely on a spotter and forced reps to much, and because of this dont build their intensity up. Their are very few people who can actually go to muscular falure, its mental falure most people train to
I agree with this 110%. thats why people have days when you cant lift 90 pounds on the bench and then there are days you bench the 90lbs dumbells for warmups. Its all mental.

I think by failure he means possitive failure
going to the point where he can't personally move the weight solo and his spotter needs to help him some
a.k.a forced reps
that's what I consider general failure
when you can't do a full rep alone
so if you go to where you need so much as one forced rep
to me that is failure and a tad beyond
you could go eight reps past failure
your spotter would be doign a damn lot of work tho : P

Exactly....actually it reminds me of this dork who 'benches' 300lbs at my gym...his chest sucks but his training partner has a killer set traps.

There's probably more truth to that than he'd care to admit. I see that signature and it screams "9-year old hairless virgin boy trying to act cool" loud and clear.
Then again..this is only the net...I could be wrong
