any questions you have about being Enlisted in the Air Force.
Ask me anything about military jobs, basic training, military life, benefits, etc.
i don't know about the Officer side of the military so save your "How do I become a fighter pilot?" questions for someone else.

it took me 4 1/2 years.
in the air force, you take a test and if you meet the required score, you pin on your rank anywhere from a couple months to almost a year later.
i made it my first try.
some can make it earlier if they came in as an E-3 or made E-4 earlier through a program called "Below the Zone"

i know you're leaving for basic soon, so you're gonna have to take a small break from lifting. it's alright though. your cardio will be pretty good when you're done.
once you're done with basic, you can pretty much lift whenever you want. when you're all done with tech school and at your first assignment, you can lift whenever. you'll actually get time during your duty day to go to the gym. i work out in the morning before work and on the weekends. the base gyms always have decent equipment and are open early/late for shift workers. you'll have time to eat all your meals, too.
i don't go clubbing anymore, i'm a family man. but when i was younger, that's all i did. when i would go TDY (temporary duty assignment) i would spend every minute of my off duty time with alcohol in my system. haha.
when i'm not at work, my life is pretty normal. i do whatever i want.
when you get to basic, you're gonna fill out a dream sheet. it's an assignment preference form. you have 8 CONUS (continental US) and 8 overseas choices. you're a cop so you can go anywhere. just put down the places you want to go. remember, this is just your preference, you can go ANYWHERE.
what kind of places do you want to go to? i'll tell you what places are good/bad.

my brother and father recommended it.
my brother is currently a loadmaster and insisted that if i join i get a guaranteed contract to be a loadmaster also.
i wanted to join the Navy, but my dad was former navy and told me the AF was better. better jobs, facilities, duty assignments, quality of life.

Is there an officer program for someone that is about to graduate where you can just go to training and go straight in as an officer? The Marines have OCC, is there an AirForce version? I have about a year left of college and I'm not doing ROTC with the retards that go right when "column left" is called.

No homo? haha jk.
SD, Since youve been in, how many duty stations have you had? To me thats the only thing I wouldnt like, especially if I had a family. I like to be set in one place. But my friends dad is an A10 pilot, and since theres only a couple bases that have A10's hes been stationed at Davis-Monthan for like 18 years, omitting including TDYs and deployments.

it has it's ups and downs, just like any other job.
but for the most part, i like it. the take home pay isn't the best, but when you factor in all the benefits, the military pays pretty well.
if i wasn't in the military, i'd probably still be chasing my dreams of being an artist.... i don't know if i'd be able to support my wife and 2 kids selling painting.

What does it take to actually fly jets? like what are the requirements and what type of training and for how long?
I know it sounds like a little kid question but i've always been interested especially considering the fact that less that 2 percent actually fly them, do you apply to fly and then go through rigorous training and then they just cut them almost like the seals or how does it work in the air force?"I take everything thats thrown at me, put it on my shoulders, and just go." -Ray Lewis
