Hate to pry into anyone's personal health, but curious if anyone has this and has advice on how to cope w/ it. I have a friend w/ a young daughter who is going through this, just had some of her colon removed, it's rough.
Just at a quick glance, seems like gut biome may have some impact on this. Anyone who has this, had their bacterias measured and taken probiotic strains to improve things?
Any dietary changes that improved things?
Any things like antibiotics or chit food that make it worse?

Anyone have Crohns?

I have it (srs)
Been under control with the help of Humira pens for years now. So much so that I can barely notice it but I do accept that long term the risks of cancer and chit is there. I do plan on quitting the pens eventually but only if I can quit eating chocolate and sugary chit
The thing with Crohn's is that the trigger foods can vary from person to person. For me, too much coconut, alcohol, spicy stuff I avoid. Red meat is harder to digest so I stick to fish and chicken or plant based. The same with the medication, sometimes you can be lucky and not notice anything like me, others it's hell. I generally stay lean and don't overeat just to not provoke anything.
I haven't had any of my intestines measured for bacteria or removed like your friends daughter so I can't speak to that kind of management. Did she get the Ostomy bag?Last edited by RayBoccini; 05-08-2024 at 09:02 AM.

It's your chitty diet and the chitty things you eat. Had it when I lived with my parents and ate college cafeteria food. Since being on my own and cooking my own chit, 0 problems. Stay away from chit like remicade and humira unless you want to fuk up your immune system or get Hodgkins lymphoma.
Cut out sugar
Cut out sugar alcohols.
Clean up your diet, look for foods on low glycemic Index
You can get away with doing a chitty version of a keto diet.
Also do intermittent fasting.
Processed foods are loaded with extra chemicals and seed oils. Remove ALL processed foods.

I have an IBD condition and for simplification will tell others I have a Crohns's like disease, which is not entirely correct but it seems like everyone knows about Crohns due to drug advertising and what i have isn't known about by most.
Drugs, diet changes, supplements, and probiotics can all have a beneficial effect it seems. there is a good amount of research saying that sun exposure can be beneficial for IBD conditions also. The SCD seems to be the most popular diet with Crohn patients.

Ribeye and water only.
100% guaranteed to cure it completely. Endless people have done this. 100% srs. May need a couple months thou to see results.
Any reduction in carbs will improve the condition. Keto will improve it further. Carnivore will be a life changer. This is how Salisbury steak came about. The doctor by that name noticed that people get cured of every autoimmune condition like that when he fed them Nothing but steak and water.
Most reactions are to plants. Nobody is allergic to beef or to water. An obvious thing to do is such an elimination diet.
In case you think this is some youtube conspiracy Shawn baker stuff I’m parroting, no, entire books have been written by phds in this area. There are human case reports, and studies, literally the leading researchers and doctors who specifically specialize in this stuff put people on these diets and cure their patients. You just have to take your head out of your arse and do the fukin diet.

I had it as a young lad and it f*cked me up pretty bad for like an entire year. Ended up having to do a month long stay in the hospital before it was put under control.
I had a flare up once a year since then up until I was 18 years old. After turning 18 and leaving to go live somewhere else all of a sudden I stopped getting flare ups, and stopped taking the daily medication. I'm 30 now and have never gotten another flare up since back before 18 years old.
My diet changed when I moved so I suspect in my case it was purely what I was eating that was making me sick. I hate less processed food, lots of vegetables, lots of healthy seasonings (curry, turmeric)...... Good home cooked Caribbean food is very healthy and does not include processed items. This saved me.
I would say to anyone suffering from crohns to get in touch with your cultural roots and eat the types of food that your grandparents would eat. Do NOT eat traditional American cancer food. IF you have European roots, look into cuisine from your European country.#11bangbang

Diet diet diet
No chrons but I had part of my colon removed due to diverticulitis.
Anyways yeah I started taking probiotics and eating more carefully. As unlucky as she is it will be good for her to form good eating habits at a young age.
My problem was that I was working out and staying in good shape in my 20s so I felt like I could eat whatever I wanted. I didn't really get that food discipline until I was in my 30s and had the stomach problems.

My mother had Chrohns and colitis my entire childhood. She'd try different diets cutting stuff out one by one. The doctor would suggest something, then something else. Strictly veggies and meat....didn't ever help.
She had a massive surgery that removed most of her lower intestine, and a complete colostomy. She poops in a bag now.
While her case was very severe, the surgery totally changed her life. She can function completely normally now.
Took 10 ish years of trying everything to come to that.See BrianDaMans sig.

My son has Crohns, SAPHO and CRMO, all autoimmune, the last two are extremely rare, but I imagine the source is of similar origin. This all started out of the blue last summer, perfectly healthy kid up until that point. He's improved with Remicade and Methotrexate injections, but I don't want him on this garbage long term, the Drs. don't seem to know squat and pretty much indirectly threaten CPS if we don't follow their treatment plan when you mention diet and alternatatives. Been kind of at a loss about it all.

Up to post #5 on reps. Will get as many of you as I can, some of you guys are on recharge but I'll work at it.
Update: #22
That is tough. Maybe it's easy for me to say, but time to get new doctors -- the threats alone are unacceptable.
In the meantime, I'd follow their recommendations, which is always just drugs and sometimes surgery, but work on my own to try and find more holistic ways to treat it. Nothing crazy that might endanger your son but no harm in cutting out glutens, wheat or stuff like that if your kid is up to trying.Last edited by JUSA; 05-15-2024 at 11:56 AM.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, it's just tough because there are so few pediatric Drs. in the area and the three diseases, two only a few treat in the entire country and they have been willing to work with the experts, then insurance and all that and it becomes a nightmare to switch things up.
We've already tried cutting out inflammatory foods, gluten etc., but he's a kid too so a fine balance. If it were up to me, I'd have him go full keto, but doing that with a kid I can't fathom his quality of life.

An earlier post mentioned the specific carbohydrate diet. I don't have Chron's but know someone who improved a lot after starting SCD. Reading Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall is how he discovered the diet... your friend may find the book worthwhile if he's not already familiar w/ it.

I remember reading some mind blowing chit about how gluten actually cuts the inside lining of our intestines and whatever food that gets into those cuts your body will form an immunity (allergy) against (because the food bits are too large)
I guess that's why whatever you're allergic to can be so fkin random
Of course there are other causes for the disease the above is just one weird example of how it can happen
It gets pretty gnarly when you start to understand pesticides in grains, on produce etc
Then we got GMO, hormones, mRNA, antibiotics etc in our food supply
We're consuming allot of poison as a whole and things need to change ASAP
I never had Crohns but had pancreatitis and had to eat nothing but soup, jello and broth for 6 months..Went from 215 - 178 pounds chit was awful...Can't imagine Crohns I'd be doing research every day because the human body can heal itself...
I'm 100% certain if you change diet correctly the Crohns would stopJournal: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=139898123&page=240
