The thing is Sony can't make 100 bangers per year because their gold aaa standard costs them absurd amounts of money to produce.

They sell the copies and see basically no return after that, whereas you can go take a look at all the free games littered with microtransactions that have people playing thousands of hours and spending just as much money.

The actual whales are all live service free to play games. Sony makes great single player games but they are so quickly forgotten about and you generally aren't spending more than the price of the game.

It's painfully obvious the execs at Sony are not happy with games costing 200 million to make and not being able to generate revenue beyond the sticker price of the game.

Go ask any of the millions of people who play a single online game how much they spend on skins and battle passes and season passes.... My apex legends account has more money into it then I have spent on the entire ps5 ecosystem this gen dead Fkn srs.

Sony and Microsoft are both desperately trying to get that. Microsoft just ended up buying it with blizzard/Activision/Minecraft.

Sony is just stuck in a rut now. Helldivers 2 has been a phenomenal step in the right direction for them. An amazing game that rightfully released day 1 on pc/ps5 and look what happens, massive success.

It seems like a lot of people forget how badly they fumbled with the PS3. Sony has a history of getting really cocky and doing really stupid chit when their lead and fan following is peaking. Heck just look at what they did going from the PSP to the Vita. With the PSP they managed to gain a lot of popularity and win over the Game Boy crowd, only to completely phuck it up by making stupid decisions with the Vita.

It's not sustainable because they've went full retard on budgets (a video game shouldn't cost $100+ million to make) and diversity hires trying to include their personal politics in games at the expense of good stories (look how decisive Spiderman 2 was). Sony execs are in full control of both of those and are responsible for pushing them to the point where it's at now.
