Typically had a nice collection of obscure mangas, a few daggers and action figures
Whatever happened to those guys?

I can't relate to that at all. I always wore wolf shirts, that would have a giant moon with wolves howling or just staring off. My mangas were all super main stream, I do like blades but I fancy myself a katana man, obviously I practice in a kimono and wooden sandals for the full experience.

Go to bed, wake up 173lb crew
Annoyed at eating whatever I want and not getting fat crew
Accidentally get fat crew

I think what has occurred is that for whatever reason (I have thoughts on this) people in general became more antisocial or introverted thus seeking out asocial activities such as reading manga and all that geekery. Like I remember when finding Pokemons was a big deal with your phone and I was disturbed that so many adults would be into that...but it is what is or was.
thats why its become more prevalent. its still a subculture but more people partake.
so for a few of those guys it was like they were knighted a Jedi by a larger group...but for most probably even more introverted and isolated.
