It's brutal. If you make decent money 30% of it is gone. Making 100k and bringing home 70 of it is really tough with how much EVERYTHING has gone up the last few years. People make fun of socialist countries and getting half of their paychecks taxed but we aren't fking far off ourselves.

My guess broadly the US is:

- worse for the bottom 40% [less government support]

- a wash for the next 40% to 45% [less federal income tax, but still state income tax/local property + sales tax, plus much higher OOP spend for healthcare]

- better deal for the top 5% maybe, definitely for the top 1% [less federal tax, lower relative hit from consumption taxes, healthcare is also a smaller percentage of income]

Our system for funding healthcare is retarded.

- 25% on Medicaid/CHIP

- 37% qualify for Obamacare subsidy

- 7% just SOL

And we spend more to cover care for the 25%+ [9 million on VA care] getting government funded care on a per capita [total population] basis than other countries spend per capita for 100% of their population. All for worse outcomes.
