I’ve owned over 20 cars so far and I kick myself as to how much money I’ve wasted on them. I wish I could go back and just buy a nice 90’s Japanese car and learn to do everything myself. Save myself a fortune in the long run. Instead I’ve sold cars for the pettiest reason and lost money paying mechanics for simple jobs I’ve never learned to do myself.

Anyone else wasted a ton of money on cars?

I’m with you
Did the math years ago and I have spent 40k on cash cars before ever financing anything
I did usually make a profit on each car though so that’s a plus
But I can say, even if you know how to work on vehicles (Not a pro mechanic but can do a lot of stuff myself) being a car person, you’ll likely still spend too much on mods instead of repairs lolSloots Gon Sloot.

I wouldn't call it wasting money if it's a true hobby/passion of yours.
I have so much money tied up in my 79 Camaro right now and still much more to spend, and I don't regret spending a single penny. The closer I get to being done, the more excited I get to finally drive/race it.
Enjoy your chitty CVT transmissions that Honda uses lmaoWorst jew in the world.

I used to think I "wasted" a ton of money on cars until I realized what the average person spends on alcohol/cigarettes, eating out/fast food, and women (that they're simping on)
I think if a hobby gives you joy and keeps you out of trouble, then it's difficult to determine if that money was really "wasted"

Doesn't feel wasted at all to be honest. I've had a lot of fun and made a lot of great friends.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

I’m a mental midget when it comes to buying vehicles. Wasted countless amounts of money , and would be retired if I didn’t play stupid games .
To think I sold them for 50 cents on the dollars and nothing to show for it .
Kind of wish I kept my TA , as I really enjoyed cruising in it , but I ran out of room in my garage
Make Misc great again

I don't consider it a waste. Its a hobby. Some people spend money on gambling, drugs and alcohol I choose to spend it on my cars. Everyone spends money on something they like be it Clothes, Watches, Sneakers, Funko Dolls, Electronics, Strip Clubs, Etc.
If you enjoy working and modding your car just do it.

That's a part of having a hobby and interests. Not all cars were a loss for me though, I actually made a couple grand off my 02 Trans Am WS6 that I got as my first car when I sold it. The worst car I ever owned was an 09 Subaru Outback XT, it was a cool and interesting car when I got it, I actually bought it because I was looking for a practical yet somewhat compact SUV-ish sorta car, and it fit the bill. That and I always wanted to own a turbocharged Subaru flat-4, it's one of those ownership experiences that every car enthusiast needs to have these days it seems. The engine blew when I was driving between SF and LA, had it towed down to LA, got the engine fixed but then it broke down again. Ended up just pretty much giving the thing away, it was a total loss, but then again it wasn't like I had spent a fortune on some high-end luxury car or exotic.
Motorcycles are what I had the biggest losses on in general. I had a Suzuki DRZ-400SM, great starter bike but chitty ex-buddy ended up wrecking it and I ended up just parting it out and didn't get much. I got a Ducati Hypermotard 796 later, awesome bike but it ended up getting stolen when I was still living in Hollywood and I had some cheap ass insurance that didn't cover chit because full coverage was about a quarter the price of the bike.

Starting to now....at 35.
Finally to a point in life where I can though. Have dreamed of these days for the last 15 years.
Dropped $3500 on a 2003 WRX about 6 months ago....dropped $2k into it, sold it a few days ago for $4k. lulz....it had bad rust issues (was originally a northern car)
Currently building a 402 Chevy Big Block and TH400.....plan on dropping at least $3k....full rebuild (its got a spun bearing) big cam, single turbo, fully built manual valve body for the transmission.
Just bought a "home" for the big block....1972 Skylark for $6k....needs about $3k worth of work before the motor goes in. I plan on this being my "life long" project and as long as I don't find any serious issues that I cant fix, Im not selling this one.

The time I had to work on cars I had no money. I would buy/sell fox body mustangs for cash, trade up/down/for parts, usually had 2-3 of them going. Keeping in mind this was late 90s when you could find workable ones for 3-4k and beaters for $900. After 7-8 years of it I wound up with a 10 second 5spd LX hatch.
I kind of look back at it as lucky, if I had any money back then I would have torched it buying parts.
Now all I really want is that clean 89 I had back without all the chopping and other chit I did to it.------♥♥-----
