Anyone interested in this game. It's a looter shooter kind of like Borderlands and has 4 player co-op.
The videos look good and has a decent amount of hype surrounding it, comes out Thursday.
The technomancer class looks pretty decent.
I think it looks good but wondering how good it is to play alone.

Preloaded on Steam. From what I’ve played in the demo and seen in marketing material, game looks promising
Am huge looter shooter fan coming from Destiny and Warframe.
To each there own. I think the same for all Battle Royal games and cannot understand how they keep getting made. I find them so mind numbingly boring.Last edited by blank98; 03-30-2021 at 08:42 PM.

I've grinded every looter shooter there is, and I thought the demo of this game was really boring. Abilities weren't as fun or cool and flashy as destiny or warframe, cover system wasn't as good as gears, idk everything seemed like a worse version of something already done.

I couldn't even be arsed to try the demo because I don't like the almost contradictory gameplay directions that they've tried to mishmash together into a single game.
It's rather disappointing, too, because if you look at the developer's experience, they could have used Painkiller and Bulletstorm DNA to make an awesome first or third person game that prioritized aggressive, in-your-face tactics in the vein of Doom 2016 or a cover-based shooter in line with Gears of War.
There isn't really a looter shooter that could apply to either of those, but they seem to have gone for some strange amalgamation that hamstrings itself by emphasizing aggressive play style that has you right in the enemy's face, but then they also stapled on an entire cover system that apparently you're not even supposed to use for remotely optimal play. If you're going to waste a portion of the controls on a dedicated cover system, then it should actually be a core part of the gameplay - not a, "wait until your powers recharge," cop out.
That brings me to the other thing - the powers. In the developer's efforts to stand out from being "just" another looter shooter, throwing in powers comes off as fukking boring and threadbare at this point when every other game seems to throw in "ults" these days; even Doom Eternal kind of devolved into a bunch of abilities cycling on and off cool down.
Thinking back to the earlier previews, had Outriders just been a hyper violent third person shooter in a similar vein to Gears of War that pitted you in cover-based trench warfare with loot thrown in, I honestly think the game would have stood out more than being yet another instance of guns taking the backseat to some ****gy, dayglo light shows your character ejaculates onto enemies every 60 seconds.
A related point of contention I have with Outriders is the overreliance life leech to survive combat implemented in the trite fashion seen in every game that uses a similar mechanic, i.e. deal [x] damage and receive [y] back as health. With their aim supposedly being to encourage aggressive play, this would have been the area to innovate and try to shine, similar to how Doom 2016 turned what could have easily been a boring means to regain health into a unique, fun, and rewarding component to combat.
Outriders is pretty much the opposite in that respect because it looks ridiculous - especially because of the powers, like the player is a full retard suicide bomber sucking the life force from everything around them for breaching social distancing.
Before I forget, the last two issues that sour me the most are how it's an always online game despite ostensibly being playable and beatable solo, while forcing even single players to sit through countless transition screens between zones. According to the developers, the latter was specifically because playtesters wound up confused during zone changes in co-op (no really), but now we're all saddled with sh*tty, awkward animations.
I don't mind the idea of looter shooters, but practically all of them fall into the same trappings where it feels as though the developers use the gambling-like nature of loot drops as a crutch in order to keep you replaying more than the gameplay itself.
If the core gameplay isn't engaging on its own, then these sorts of games might as well be stat lotteries.
With Outriders, I find that it's following too closely in the footsteps of its peers, when they could have differentiated it in so many ways that it makes the mind boggle as to how much of this was designed by committee instead of genuine faith in the concept. All the more so when I see how these same developers made Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and helped work on Gears of War (porting, as well as working with Epic on Judgement).
Going by that and how they're going with a proper, full release without stringing players along through micro/macro transactions, this is a game I want to do well, but it simply isn't doing anything for me with the directions they've taken for the actual gameplay.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

It's been received fairly well so far, with the biggest issue seemingly being the servers. High on steam charts, and high on xbox (launching on gamepass helps).
I'll probably give it a go sometime. The core gameplay seems fun.-Engineering Crew

Fun game; looked to get a coop game to play with 2 buddies and we picked this up. Only at level 6 but I like the gameplay so far. Dialogue is cringeworthy but maybe that is on... purpose? story itself is okay though.
We're having fun so there's that. $45 on GreenmangamingArsenal F.C / San Antonio Spurs

If you liked Bulletstorm, the one (technically) looter shooter I can recommend is Shadow Warrior 2, which is what I found to be the perfect balance of loot to shoot emphasis.
The game is more in line with Doom 2016/Eternal in terms of combat, while the loot is basically there to augment the set weapons you unlock as you progress.
You pretty much just collect the loot like running over coins or tokens in other games, and once you're done murdering everything in sight, you can teleport back to the hub and sort through it, slot some into your weapons, sell them, ect.
As for the augments themselves, it's mostly there to spice up the combat - e.g. adding lighting bullets, a flaming chainsaw, or what have you, and because the arsenal is more like Doom where you aren't starving for ideal gun drops, it doesn't feel intrusive or detract from the main focus on combat.
Seeing how little the genre has innovated even since SW2, it is still refreshing as to how the loot took a backseat to making sure the combat was fun and addicting all on its own.
Some of the gameplay looks like Gears of War when there's cover around, but then they have parts where the slow movement really stands out because it's just the character awkwardly chugging along strafing enemies in an open area.
The parts that make use of the former look the most fun, too, so I don't get why they wanted to lean so heavily into the open field segments without any swift movement or cover.
I want to see if they ever cave on the constant online requirement or if they were lying and start piling in the usual live service baggage. As it is now, though, the current implementation is inexcusable:
Scroll down a little for what disconnects look like
I'm just not sure what the point is if they're being sincere about no microtransactions or other typical live service bollocks. They even permanently brand cheaters* (despite this being a co-op only game - god this generation is f*cking soft), which makes the online requirement even more pointless.
*Which people can fly define as:

Played through the prologue last night.
The dialogue is garbage but the "story" is at least a little interesting. The gunplay seems like it'll get super repetitive soon. I picked the role of the Devastator (CQC, Tank) and the abilities seem cool enough.
The limited movement (no jumping, and a shell of the Gears cover system) and what appears to be limited gun options will likely kill the game quickly for me, but it seems to at least be fun enough to play for a little.***Mariah Carey is my 10/10 Crew***

The Upper Echelon Gaming review going over the balance towards end game makes me think the same, especially if they don't get the end game fixed. Basically 3/4 classes have a practically identical meta (sorry Devastator) towards the end, and there's nothing else worth exploring at the moment. That really sucks to hear because a good end game should give you more options and room to toy around with all of the gear and power you've accumulated.
Shadow Warrior 2 isn't really a fully fledged looter shooter, but I certainly felt like by the end I could screw around with all kinds of crazy, experimental loadouts which creates this sort of exponential fun factor when you would otherwise be bored. In contrast, Borderlands 2 gets really bogged down in a set way to play the further along one decides to go, which is why all of those ultra vault hunter whatever-the-hell high level builds wind up looking rather similar.
As for the weapons, quite a few designs are a solid start, but yeah, you can scroll through entire categories with a couple flicks and it leaves you wanting more for how few legendaries each category offers. And some of the designs are awesome, but there are less than a handful in each.
Watching gameplay, the movement and control setup is still the strangest part to me. I can see the Gears of War DNA whenever someone is using cover and popping out to cap enemies, but as soon as the cover is gone and they're lumbering around out in the open, it's as though a Gears of War level glitched out and the cover disappeared.
Check out the weapon attributes and weapon mods listed on the wiki, because it looks like other than the actual weapon variants like pistols, rifles, shotguns, ect., modifying your gun boils down to stats, health leeching, or status effects.
Clicking through some of the individual weapon categories, there are some really good looking guns in there, but individual attributes are nothing to write home about.
A common theme between stats, mods, powers, and what have you is an emphasis on leeching health from enemies one way or another, which is pretty stale on its own, but it's in practically everything. With the hints of Gears of War in there, I think they missed a prime opportunity to try something kind of crazy like id did with Doom 2016 and the glory kills, although they would probably need a better movement/control scheme since it's currently looking way too clunky past aiming down sights.
I peaked at a couple videos online and you weren't kidding.
Mostly just flavors of, "some dude" who you have to dump buckets of bullets into until they eventually keel over presumably from having a 98% concentration of lead in their bloodstream.
I don't get it - when will developers learn that those types of fights are terrible for shooters, but absolutely the worst for looter shooters that already trend towards bloated enemy stats.
It's like in their minds they imagine this epic duel between badass soldiers with this intense shootout, but it's really just holding down the trigger for a preposterous amount of time.
This isn't even like The Division which made the already poor choice to features dudes in street clothes tanking more rounds than the North Hollywood shootout; they have insane looking alien creatures - some of which are massive - that allow a proper suspension of disbelief for drawn out fights.
That said, it will be the day when some developer figures out how to make a shooter boss fight feel like the shootout equivalent to a Fromsoft Soulsborne fight.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

Word of warning to anyone playing right now: there's an ongoing glitch that wipes your inventory:
Some distraught Outriders players have lost nearly 100 hours of progress after latest patch
Update failed to stamp out worrying inventory wipe bug.
Some Outriders players are reporting the continuation of a worrying inventory wipe bug that in some cases has scrubbed nearly 100 hours of investment into the game.
Outriders' first big patch went live last night on PC and PlayStation 4, and this morning on PlayStation 5, and some players soon reported their inventories had wiped.
Affected players sound distraught, reporting that the bug has cost them loot gathered after tens of hours of grinding.
"Like thousands of others today first login after patch I was greeted by this on my Level 50 gear, 94 hour Devastator," said redditor Ok_Entertainment_112. "Today I was going to be leveling my last piece of gear to 50. Me and two friends were celebrating our build completions.
"Everything gone, 94 hours lost, almost complete build lost, this is a joke. Naked at login, server can't connect yada yada like everyone else."
"Adios Outriders," said redditor u/Wolphoenix. "Inventory wipe and not being able to load into my 80 hour main is my final straw."What exactly constitutes cheating in Outriders? People Can Fly defines it thus:- Intentionally running the game on PC without Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC)
- Modifying game files to enhance a character: levels, skills, inventory, etc.
- Externally modifying game time to reduce time-dependent features such as vendors and challenges
I hope it doesn't happen to anyone here, but yeah, I'm absolutely going to have a laugh at redditors' expense.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

I played the demo, honestly, I quite liked it .... I dont know if I'm going to pay full price for this, especially given the current bugs, but overall the game seems decent stupid fun .... The story / characters in the demo and how they set it all up + the writing is atrocious ... It's pretty much balls to wall mindless action with some super cool powers.
If I had a group that was interested in this sort of thing I'd probably buy it, but none of my friends would play games like this lol.Sig line can't be a novel
