Imagine if the media reported Flu Deaths with the same intensity they did Corona, we would be in complete social meltdown. People will say its a lack of testing, but what if we didn't test and treated it like a bad cold strain and never reported it in the News? Would we even notice?

Pls do some research before shouting nonsense.
Covid-19 is a new virus, no one has antibodies --> if everyone gets infected at the same time, the healthcare system will collapse --> everybody dies.
In northern italy they already have to make choices based on life expectancy (ICU bed goes to 60yo, weak 85yo gets left to die)6'4 200

But who was mortality rate?

Flu = nice little contained and understood campfire
Wuhan virus = huge pile of brush soaked in gasoline with a lit fuse marching towards it
“Just a flu bros” = people looking at the sparks from the fuse and going “why is everyone worried, that campfire is way bigger than those sparks”Last edited by jtaylor2010; 03-14-2020 at 07:51 AM.

You’re forgetting the flu has a mortality rate of 0.1% roughly. This has a mortality rate between 2-3% so far that’s a massive difference. Corona is also much more contagious by an r factor of 2-2.5 which puts it just below SARS

We’re potentially short millions of hospital beds for the old people who are gonna need it if it rapidly spreads. They gonna shut everything down for a month and try to slow the spread so we can try to avoid that.
It’s not about how many people have died it’s about preventing it from causing hundreds of thousands+ deaths in a potential “Worst case scenario”. Which looking at Italy seems quite possible.

It's an apples and oranges comparison.
The Wuhan virus is currently showing a 35x mortality rate compared to the flu, while being much more infectious.
A lot fewer people died from ebola too, but I don't see anyone making a comparison with flu statistics to downplay concerns about ebola."Buy a man eat fish, the day, teach man, to lifetime." - Joe Biden

Less people die from Hiv per year than the common flu. By your logic the flu is more lethal than HIV...

Getting sick of the “I’m healthy so idgaf “ mentality. It’s not just about you feeling sick but you being infected and spreading it to others who may not fare as well. Also the healthcare system being broken. We’re already stretched so thin as it is. We don’t have the infrastructure and manpower if it gets half as bad as China or Italy. Plus we have all these mug individuality *******s here that don’t want to follow recommendations will be screwing us all
