It depends on your position, your field, your experience in your field and your location.

If you work in NYC and make $65K a year, that's not terrible. If you work in Syracuse, NY and make $65K a year, you'll be pretty comfortable. If you work in some suburb in Indiana and make $65K a year, you'll probably be even better than that.

you can max your credit cards out making 100 k a year as fast as you can making 40k if you dont watch what you are doing.

My sil makes 90k per year as a teacher, yeah, thats what I said too. but she has 0 money in savings and a big car and house payment and student loans, she basically scrapes by on that amount.

she is not abnormal by any stretch but probably like 90% of the people out there who dont know how to budget their money.

I dont make that much by any stretch but have savings, no debt and an older car and an affordable place to stay. i go on vacation every few months and basically buy what i want, i just use common sense when doing it and me needs are simple. i dont need to drink cristal all the time, i am happy with some bud light.

Am I on the course to what I want to do in life at the age of 30? Am I working towards a goal that will give me satisfaction?

I'd be more concerned with your answers to those questions instead of money. If you work at something you truly love you will excel at it. You will be able to find a niche and make money.

Depends on where you live. Also it matters where you love your job or not. Making six figures and being miserable is a lot worse than making 40k and being happy,content, and fulfilled with your life.
