Thread title basically.
Within the last year I've been lifting with a focus toward powerlifting after finally realizing I should stop getting concussions in kickboxing.
I never trained with a focus on how much I could deadlift or squat, always knew my bench 1rm because bragging rights.
I just pulled 430 a few nights ago(it was easy) and I'm wondering if it's a feasible goal for me to hit 500 in time for my first meet in February.

How long did it take you to hit a 500 lb deadlift?

it took me 2 years from the first time i starting deadlifting consistently. Would've gotten there sooner if I knew more about programming back then

Still havent done it ... was going to but life got in the way. Friend of myne got it within the first year of lifting, and then he stalled for like 2 years before he finally managed to make progress again. But here's what you wanna hear: Yes it is possible if you train smart, gaining some weight will probably be helpfull so long as you don't go overboard with it.
You shouldn't be tempted to go and hit certain numbers on your first meet, just go and have fun. Some guys recommend leaving some in the tank each meet do you're hunrgy to lift more in the next one.Experience is the single greatest teacher in history. First you do your test, then he teaches you the lesson

It took me a couple of years. First year I got to 405 and second was to 500. Now I can hit 500 consistently on any given Saturday and am working toward 600. Unfortunately I'm in my 4th years of training. I got some injuries that took me out the last couple of years, for a good bit each year. One was back and the other shoulder.
I'm older, though, and came from a triathlon background (and couch potato before that) so had very little strength training. I imagine someone with training and good programming could get sooner. 70 lbs in about 4 months is doable, but will depend on lots of factors.

First time I pulled. I did some power cleans in HS and college but never deadlifted. A month or two after I tried it out I ran madcows 5x5 up to week ten or so and took it from 500x5 to 605x5 and failed at 620x4 in just those ten weeks. I don't do the lift anymore other than some high rep low SLDL's.
If 430 was easy I think 500 by Feb. is reasonable.

Lots of variables here from person to person.
As mentioned above a good program will take you a long way.
Other things like how strong you are in other areas, body type, and desire to get there come into play.
It took me about four years and i would say i was not always powerlifting i changed to cycles of bodybuilding back and forth.
Another five years and i was able to get 10 x 500 touch and go DL's at my best.
