I dont train abs directly, i once brought an ab wheel i mess about with it for ten minutes every couple of weeks.
My abs are getting hit hard during all the compound exercises through the week, i dont not believe direct ab training would make my abs any more prominent only a calorie defecit will do that.

I train abs once a week, for about 5-10 min.
But I do find it important to train my core, planking, ab wheels, lower back.
I don't train abs to make them more visible, but to strengthen them to handle heavier weights, otherwise lower back will take on a lot of the stress. On my youtube channel I post videos on FIERCE 5 routine, nutrition, putting on strength and size.

When I first started training abs about 9-10 years ago, I went nuts and followed some routine that had me doing 1000-1200 reps of crunches (of all varieties) per week. I did that for about 6 weeks and all of a sudden I went from no abs to seeing some abs. Granted I had pretty low bf...
I no longer do that lol. What I've found out since then is that even if i quit doing abs for about a year, if I start doing simple crunches about 2x a week for 3 weeks-ish they COME BACK. As long as I'm at a long enough body fat. The abs never really 'go away' They just get 'less sharp' if I don't do them.
Just my opinion but I'm no longer a fan of high reps. I feel like to really get them to pop, isometrics seem to do wonders. I would just hold the peak contraction of a crunch for like 2-3 seconds per rep. I'll also do half a crunch hold it for a sec then complete rep and hold it again at the top. Or I'll crunch and then come down half way and hold it a sec. Varieties like that... I like to hold hanging leg raises as well. I like to keep the reps fairly low.Lower back control/arching:
- Arching your back will not flatten out your lower back.
- Lower back is arched by tilting your crotch towards your knees.
Counterintuitive? 101% so!

A muscle can be either Medial to the midline or Lateral to it.
Therefore, there is no such thing as a medial/lateral delt.
Lateral delt or MIDDLE delt please...

I train abs just like any other body part- sets of about 8 reps till failure, although I only do about 12 sets of abs per week (hitting abs twice a week for 6 sets each day on a PPL split), about half the volume of the bigger muscle groups (legs, back, etc.).
Training abs every workout is foolish unless you're on a 3-day full body split, for the same reason why it's stupid to train chest every workout. Gotta give each muscle group proper rest and recovery after a good workout. Of course, it's also foolish to skip direct ab work thinking that compound lifts will cover it. I doubt these people skip arms even though their arms are hit with compound movements- their logic is inconsistent.Last edited by VinceField; 06-03-2016 at 06:37 AM.
