-the general anti-male vibe in western countries, which has made flirting taboo because women now view men as creeps/predators/potential rapists (we've seen recent examples of this with the #Yesallwomen sh*t)

video games/internet, these basically remove all face to face social interaction. But let's be honest though, there probably were many FA people in every generation. Before video games/internet, there was the TV, before that, probably books. Plenty of people today just read books all day.

I used to be FA. Hard to single out just one factor out of many contributors, but I'd say the biggest ones are bad parenting and the internet.
That's pretty much what happened to me, at least. I've never been particularly awkward, never had social anxiety. I guess I was a pretty ugly kid from about 15-20 years old or so, aesthetics certainly weren't doing me any favors.
But mostly it was my overprotective parents. They never let me do chit, kept an extremely tight leash on me all through school. Could never be out late, and they made a huge deal out of it any time I wanted to go do anything, it was dreadful to even ask. Basically, I had to fight them for it if I wanted to go do anything at all. Anything that sounded even remotely shady, or involving someone they hadn't personally met, they'd say no. Had to text them before, during, and after whatever I was doing, be home at a certain time or get yelled at and punished.
It doesn't take very long living like that before you get tired of it and it's not worth the hassle to even try to do anything. Why is it not worth the hassle? Because you can just sit on the internet/play games and that's fun too, without all the other crap. It's a really great alternative, and extremely time consuming (Runescape, WoW, etc.) Pretty soon, you lose the desire to go out at all.
To this day I have very little desire to go out and do anything or be social, I have to force myself. I don't believe I would've been this way if I wasn't raised like that.
