Some interest in the LTC thread for Doge, so instead of taking over their thread I started a new one.
Original: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=153136651
This thread serves as a DOGE giveaway, but also demonstrates the power of crypto currency like Dogecoin and Bitcoin in general. Miscers could crowd fund stuff using this technology, to take just one of millions of examples. Or you can put your address in your sig and people can 'rep' you IRL with a couple of cents. Fast, easy, zero 3rd parties to screw things up. Works the same for $0.0001 as it does for $100000.
Edit: 80 brahs already in, anyone is welcome to follow the giveaway by clicking the link below. I'm giving away 100 000 Doge in 100 lot increments (maybe can do some lottos or something to mix it up) so have more than enough doge for even a few hundred miscers who are interested.

Super Important Cliffs / Pic Tutorial
Dogecoin is like Bitcoin, but more jooccceeeyy - more functional, faster growth, more accessible. Simple Internet money that the government can’t screw with, and corporations can’t charge you high fees on.
1. Download: http://www.multidoge.org
2. Post your wallet address ITT, it’s under the receive tab (see pics)
3. I will send you 100 Doge when I see it (sorry brahs that I’ve already given to, not you guys)
4. Call up your gym buddy, dad, gf, FWB or whoever else you want, and get them to download multidoge too
5. Get them to email/text you THEIR wallet address, just like you told me yours. It’s case sensitive, and a bit long, so best to just copy/paste
6. Send them 50 Doge using the SEND tab, it’s easy as phuark
Be amazed, you have just sent money on the Internet, for less than a couple of cents and with zero farking around with credit card numbers or registration, Paypal verification, bank fees or being closed on the weekends etc. etc. Cool huh?
Here’s an example of me sending Dogecoin to a Miscer that already repped me with his address. I’d rather you post your address in this thread though if you want some, cos it’s easier to keep track of.
Read the thread for more *******s. Also, I maxed out on the picture attachments, so I might try put some more pictures in the first couple of posts.
Intro
Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin. It was started in December of 2013 by an Ausbrah (not on the misc) as a joke parody of Bitcoin, but became so popular and attracted so many fans it’s now making serious waves. Has increased in value over 1000% since about three weeks ago.
Doge is an internet meme that you probably know about, with an inquisitive dog that sucks at grammar, like this:
The Doge is a Shiba Inu, so fans of Dogecoin call themselves ‘Shibes’, and they use the metaphor of a rocket to the moon for the community’s growth into a globally accepted and very valuable medium of exchange. Currently a Dogecoin is worth about 1/5 of a USD cent, but at the rate it is achieving popularity this could potentially go much higher.

Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin?) WTF
Cryptocurrency is a whole new technology/asset class that you can think of like gold or USD, strapped to email. This means you can send money to anyone in the world, for very very very cheap, in any quantity, and without the government /Paypal being able to phuck around with it or freeze your bank account or charge you ridiculous fees. Zero required from you besides just getting a piece of software, and having a pseudonymous address code (like an email address) for people to send to you.
Bitcoin was the first big one, and has been growing since 2009. You could originally get some by ‘mining’, which is basically running a calculator program on your computer, but it’s been taken over by guys that have developed hardcore tech to focus just on that so that ‘natty’ CPUs/GPUs can no longer compete. It’s running into problems as well because it’s now worth quite a bit of money and so governments are looking into regulating it (China and Russia have so far been discouraging Bitcoin use) and the community has grown very cynical and exclusive.
Bitcoin has been around for 5 years, and only has 100k fans, a lot of whom aren’t very friendly and are just miserly hoping that someone else will do the work to make them rich.
Litecoin is the first spinoff of Bitcoin, and has been around for 2-3 years but only has around 17k reddit subs, and almost zero activity.
In contrast, Dogecoin which was originally the poverty Bitcoin has been growing so fast that it’s almost a legit threat. In under 2 months it has 60k fans on Reddit, as well as a lot of support on boards like 4chan. Tons of innovation is happening in terms of building infrastructure for it and giving new Shibes the opportunity to try out the technology. Paradoxically, giving it away has caused the price to keep shooting up, because more and more people get involved and want to use it to buy chit, and so they get their local shops to accept it or give it to their friends to pay them back or whatever.
http://www.reddit.com/r/bitcoin
http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoin
http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin
Dogecoin community is built on fun and sharing, so it attracts a lot of new users in a lot of new demographics. A lot of services like ******** Integration etc. are being worked on by Doge programmers that the Bitcoin guys are too stuck up or too busy to figure out themselves.
Hence, Dogecoin rapidly rising through the ranks and is now the 4th biggest cryptocurrency (Ripple doesn’t count because its value is inflated by the central company that stockpiles all of it)
http://www.coinmarketcap.com
Main differences between Doge and BTC
• Doge is based on Litecoin, meaning it uses Scrypt so even people with chit computers are more likely to be able to mine some
• Has a Doge mascot instead of some boring gold coin, so more people find it interesting
• Has 100 billion coins (distributed all in 2014) + 5 billion a year from then on instead of 21 million (distributed 2009 - 2140). This makes it a lot easier to get into, as it’d more Alpha to have 100 Doge than 0.000whateverthe****23 Bitcoins, even if they’re worth the same amount of USD.
• Doge has a bawse community that likes sharing and donating money to worthy causes. The Jamaican bobsled team at the Sochi Olympics is only there because Dogecoin fans donated enough to get them there (srs http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-0...-olympics.html)
Mining
Mirin the rig of Rectify, who posted a pic of his setup: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...post1205316251
Part of the whole crypto / Doge phenomenon is being able to make some coins on your computer by running a (hard to set up and electricity intensive) program. I don’t know too much about this, but if there’s enough interest in Dogecoin on Misc then maybe we can set up a Mining Pool where everyone sets their computers to run as a group so that combined there’s enough computing power to make a difference and we can actually get some real $$$ straight from that.
More important to familiarize people with the idea of Doge first tho, so focusing on that to start.
Trading / Get Some More (the $$$$ part of it)
INFO IN FIRST POST!!
Dogecoin Giveaway Fund + Addresses
The Doge giveaway fund is the wallet used to tip new Miscers ITT. I contributed 100k Doge to start it off, but in time it may become a self-perpetuating entity as other Miscers mine Doge or earn doge and rep back. If you put your own Dogecoin address in your sig it's possible other Doge miscers will rep you with Doge. Use it to rep other Dogebrahs, or find a way to spend it (ask your gym if they accept Doge lol), whatever works for you.
Public keys (addresses) are RECEIVE ONLY, which means it is safe to post if you want. The only thing other Dogebrahs can do with that address is give you Doge, not take it away, fraud your info (like with a credit card), send you "trade requests" or any other chit. Be aware that anyone can look up the balance of your Doge or which address (although not which person, cos it's just a string of numbers) you've sent to here: http://dogechain.info/chain/Dogecoin
This is an essential part of the underlying technology, and the tradeoff for being able to publicise your address like this is a potential loss of privacy. Shouldn't really matter, but something to be aware of. There are other crypto currencies being worked on that improve on this feature, as well as potentially some changes to Dogecoin to do the same, if any major breakthroughs happen of course I'll update the thread.
Questions, Concerns etc.
See post 5 for the FAQ. If something you want to know isn't answered, ask in thread and I or one of the other experienced Shibes will help you out.

Trading / Get Some More (the $$$$ part of it)
Do your own research, I am not a financial advisor or any of that. However, I think Doge is a massive investment opportunity. If you buy some, at the rate it’s gaining adoption the value is going to skyrocket (it already has been) and you can potentially make ceo10k/day money. No promises, and buyers get in at their own risk, but have a go with the technology (I’m offering free Doge to start you out) and investigate the community yourself.
If you want to get more
Do not buy from Mt Gox!!!! More info http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...post1205547121
International brahs - Quick but complicated / high-fee option (Paypal)
Get some Bitcoin straight away and then trade it on an exchange (see below)
http://99bitcoins.com/buying-bitcoin...actical-guide/
Americans / Canadians: Can buy directly from their own currency here
http://www.vaultofsatoshi.com
Ausbrahs: Buy bitcoin on Coinjar, then trade it for Doge on an exchange.
http://www.coinjar.com
Britbrahs: Buy bitcoin on Bitstamp, then trade it for Doge on an exchange.
http://www.bitstamp.net
Trade BTC for DOGE
Canadians and US Brahs can buy directly from USD or CAD if they want, but for everyone else you need to trade on an exchange. The exchanges can be dodgy, because it’s an unregulated market and of course risk = reward.
Don’t put in more than you can afford to lose.
The one I use and which is generally solid (although sometimes has slow deposit and withdraw times) is Cryptsy. More and more people have been reporting problems with them though, so use at your own risk.
http://www.cryptsy.com/users/login
I haven’t used many of the other exchanges, so hopefully other Cryptobrahs will chip in with their experiences on the others. BTC-E is solid but doesn’t have Doge yet.
Lowstrife pointed out in the other thread that he much prefers Vircurex, so maybe you brahs should head over and check that out. I’ve never used it so I can’t comment.
Good advice from this post

Reserved for guide / answers to FAQs
Recurring accusations: This is some kind of scam
As I put in the OP, this thread demonstrates the power of crypto currency technology. I do not profit from it in any way, unless brahs decide they would like to buy some Dogecoin because they see the potential that I see. I'm not doing anything shady to convince them that's the case, you might as well say that African Aid organisations are scamming people by giving away free food and supplies to those in need so they can experience the benefits for themselves.
Feels good to give away money (even in tiny amounts) for charity, anyone who doubts it should give it a try and see for themselves. Plus I find crypto currency fascinating, and this is an accessible way to introduce others to the subject.
Of course I'm no philanthropist, it's not a lot of money on the table here, but you've got to start small.
Hit up all you new Shibes who posted to get in. Welcome aboard the rocket to the moon. Good to see some discussion starting to emerge as well as some questions being answered by the more experienced crypto investors.
FAQ (updated with questions + answers from the thread)
Is it easy to get a wallet?
It is free and very very simple to set up a wallet. Just go to http://www.multidoge.org and download that program and that's literally all you have to do. You can then make an unlimited number of free wallets after that. Loads of brahs managed it without any problem as you can see from all the wallet addresses they posted in thread.
Dogecoin (and all crypto currencies) are global and work anywhere that you can access the Internet, so if you're reading this text, then you qualify.
What's the difference between Multidoge and the official Dogecoin-Qt wallet?
Multidoge is a 'lite' wallet, so you don't have to wait to sync the whole block chain (hours and hours of downloads), making it better to use for helping people get started quickly. It also has a much nicer interface, and less of the gimmicky 'Doge' speak. Miscers that have a ton of internet download to spare and an interest in Dogecoin are encouraged to download and run the official client at http://www.dogecoin.com as it helps ensure the health of the network.
There's way too many DOGE coins (100 billion) compared to others like Bitcoin (21 million), how is the value ever going to increase?
Because of the rapid increase in supply during 2014, aren't you worried that demand won't keep up and the value will plummet?
The whole DOGE thing is a meme, aren't you worried that it will pass?
These three questions all answered in this post http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...post1205156621
Can a wallet be hacked?
Cryptographically, no*, but by user error, yes. This is a complicated subjected and I might put some of these answers in the FAQ, but there's a lot of different kinds of wallets.
Online 'hot' wallets
Storing your Doge on a website or exchange like Cryptsy. This is only as secure as the website security, so if the website is hacked then all your Doge can be taken.
Local 'hot' wallet
This is Multidoge basically is, and what I'm getting brahs started with here. This is not the most secure, and that's one of the reasons why I'm just giving out relatively small amounts, cos you need to be familiar with the technology before you move up to the big stuff. This is more secure than an online wallet as long as you keep your computer virus / key logger free, but if someone sneaks a program in that can track your computer use they can find your wallet.dat file and make a copy of it and send it to themselves, stealing all your coins with the information in it. You can set up a password to help add security by going to File -> Add Password in Multidoge.
Local 'cold' wallet
This is where you run a program like Multidoge to generate your addresses on a computer that you NEVER connect to the internet, and then use a USB that you use on one online computer to sign transactions from your wallet on the offline computer, greatly reducing the chances that an Internet virus can steal your money. This is obviously more technical, and not really necessary for <$1 of Doge, but Shibes that invest more heavily should look into it.
Paper storage
This is the most secure. You can back up your dogecoin to a PIECE OF PAPER (srs) using a program that generates a seed code (a string of words or numbers) that you write down and keep safe, then send the DOGE to the corresponding address, and only use the paper code to unlock the coins when you actually need them. It's even possible to have a requirement for say 2/3 (or even 3/5 or anything else) codes to unlock the coins, meaning you can put one in a safe, give one to the bank, and keep one yourself, and then the bank can't take your coins cos they only have 1, but you can get them out by asking the bank anytime, and noone can hack your ****. If the bank fails, you just get your other code out of the safe and you're still good to go.
Brain wallet
This is another crazy thing about this technology, is that you can store or 'backup' your coins IN YOUR BRAIN. This is highly not recommended, because if you forget the information that gives you access to those coins, they're gone forever, and most people can't be 100% confident about their memory 100% of the time. This does make it literally impossible to put currency controls on crypto currency though, as even if you could minutely examine the computers and mobile phones of every single person walking through customs at an airport, they could just carry the coins through in their head (or put the information encoded into the corner of one picture file among thousands of similar images or whatever).
2FA (2 Factor Authentication)
A feature which can be enabled on most online wallets and is also highly recommended, basically you have either an email/phone number confirm code or link that gets sent to you when trying to make a withdrawal or transfer and you have to complete that to process it. This means even if someone hacks the site itself they probably still won't be able to grab your coins because they don't have your mobile phone or email address too.
*Technically, someone can 'guess' your private and public key combination through brute force, but it would take a computer bigger than the sun longer than the existence of the universe, so you should be all good.
Can the currency be inflated?
Yes and no. There is 100 billion Doge being distributed during 2014, and after that there will be a steady amount of 5 billion / year released. This is done by the algorithm and cannot be changed or ****ed with (there's no central bank). There is some debate about whether or not this is a good thing (in comparison to Bitcoin's hard cap of 21 million), but usage statistics show that the slight inflation of Doge is encouraging it being spent, and thus growing the economy. Also, you can lose Doge (sending to the wrong address, wiping a hard drive etc.) and if you do it's gone forever, so the slight inflation (starting at 5% and slowly decreasing as the total supply of Doge gets bigger) helps to counter the loss of coins to bad luck or plain stupidity. Eventually these two things will hit equilibrium and the money supply should stay stable.
Having a continued mining reward also means the network is more secure because there is more incentive for miners to stay mining.
Can the coins be regulated at all by the person who made the coins?
No. This is the beauty of crypto currency. The guys who coded Dogecoin, just like the coder of pretty much every other cryptocurrency have no more control over the network than anyone else does. They are subject to the rules written in the code and enforced by the network just like everyone else, and if they try change anything that would give them more control than all of the users would refuse to upgrade and just keep using the version they already have. This is not a concern.
How hard is it to make a cryptocurrency/ what's stopping anyone from making miscCoin or RedditCoin?
It's not prohibitively difficult with a bit of computer skills, and so there is nothing stopping anyone from making another coin. In fact, hundreds of people have - hence Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Quark, even a ReddCoin (one for Reddit just like you mentioned, it hasn't caught on). It is a truly free market, and thus anyone can join in, and only the best will survive.
While anyone can make a coin, what really matters is user adoption, use and network backing. If you create a chit new coin, noone is going to buy it, spend it, sell goods and services for it, trade it, and noone is going to use their computer power to secure the network. Doge has been skyrocketing in terms of usage and adoption (as well as computing power, which is bigger than Litecoin that is 10x more valuable) and hence the price is increasing. The power of the coin is not in it's uniqueness, but in its utility and community. Doge so far is second only to Bitcoin in terms of both utility and community, so it appears to have strong prospects. This could certainly change, but only time will tell.
I encourage all Miscers to check out the other coins though and decide for themselves which ones they want to use and support. They all have unique communities, features and ideas, it's a fascinating space. Check out http://www.coinmarketcap.com for all the biggest cryptos, you can click the links on the left to read more about them.Last edited by kkBRB; 02-12-2014 at 02:27 PM.

Yeap, some are going to be pyramid schemes and fail, and some are going to achieve real world utility. It's up to you to decide which ones you think are going to actually be worthwhile, but as the links in the thread show you can check out the individual communities and decide for yourself.

Bought a quarter million at 140 satoshi, sold at 240. I've been riding waves ever since. The price is stuck at 288 right now because the biggest exchange just went down so things are getting a bit crazy.
If it breaks 300, things are going to get crazy. I've been loving the volatility and I've been making some killer profits trading it.

It's true, there are a lot of coins (hundreds in fact) and in the future there will be millions. The ones that have value will be those that are actually useful though, and Doge users are doing the best job of spreading the love via donations and giveaways to introduce everyone to the technology. Take a look at the reddit communities and decide for yourself. Or better yet post an address, I'll hit you up with some coin and you can try it out.
