I was not going to post this on BB.com because of some of the hatred some folks on here feel towards me. I did not want to provide fuel to some of the aholes on here, like sending me PM's telling me it is good my dog died, or that I am a killer because I was the one who put him down.
But on the other hand I have posted over the years on here about TyRoc from the very first day I got him till recently and I have some good friends on here who are dog lovers that should know what happen to TyRoc.
So here it is, TyRoc had a chemical imbalance in his brain which slowly caused him to become extremely aggressive and viscous over time. My first encounter was the day after I threw my family reunion, while cleaning the back yard TyRoc found a piece of meat on the floor and when I told him to drop it, he started growling at me and had a blank stare in his eyes and after a brief moment he sort of came back and then dropped the meat and walked away as he would normally do.
I didn't really think nothing of it, but when I think back I can see for a split second he had no idea who I was.
The second encounter happened on Aug 23rd. My son Jason was laying on the floor watching TV and TyRoc went up to him like he always does and laid on top of him showing him affection, then out of nowhere he started growling. Jason say TyRoc whats wrong and then TyRoc reacted. He threw he weight on Jason and then bit him on the arm and started dragging Jason. Patty started screaming for me, when I came downstairs TyRoc (once again) had a blank stare in his eyes, he looked right threw me and started growling and coming towards me. After a few seconds of him growling and me holding my ground TyRoc came back and he just went to the kitchen like nothing happen. Jason was OK, it is like TyRoc was biting but at the same time knowing it was wrong and he did not break skin, but the amount of forced he used bruised Jasons arm really bad.
I put him in the back yard for a while and then I asked my other two sons to walk towards him and once again he started growling at them, as if he didn't even know who they were.
He was coming in and out and because I have small grandchildren I could not take a chance with him. I took him to the vet and after they checked him over, it was determined that TyRoc had something wrong with his brain a chemical imbalance of some kind.
They could not give him a new home and my only choice was to put him down.
So for those who have seen pics of TyRoc over the years and watched him grow, TyRoc is no longer with me....
I have been extremely depressed as TyRoc was more than just my pet, more than a dog, he was my best friend....
RIP TyRoc

TyRoc was family. But you placed your human family members first.. You had no choice.

Very Sad man..
Just glad you were on top of it and did the right thing BEFORE anyone got seriously hurt.. I've seen similar scenarios play out and the owner waited way too long to take the necessary action..The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

I'm sorry for your loss. Putting down a pet is never easy. I am going thru something myself here soon as I'm rehoming my parrots. I've had a couple for over 10 years so it's hard but its the right thing to do.

Geez, that's awful. Sorry for your loss, BH.

You're one of the folks here who has a need, for some reason, to divulge a lot of personal information about yourself. I mention some personal stuff, but I keep most of what I do, accomplish, experience, etc. to myself and those in my immediate, personal life. I generally bluster at folks who endlessly talk about themselves here, because I see them as relatively shallow, insecure blowhards, who feel a need for constant support and glory from others...even to the point of needing to whore themselves on an internet forum for some glad handing. (I know, I know. I'm wrong. They talk endlessly about themselves, their wonderful relationships, etc., because they are trying to help and inspire others. Yeah, I get it...)
But you, John/BH...as much as you talk about yourself, your exploits, your activities...you just seem to do it as part of a belief system that you are offering to others. I see you as a street philosopher. It's almost like you're not talking about YOU as much as you're talking about a point of view on life...a life philosophy or approach. And yeah, you get people who are "haters," or whatever. In fact, you and I have not always seen eye to eye, but I never interpreted my disagreement with your positions as anything I disliked personally about your character.
So, why am I blathering on? Because I understand you're hurting. I'm trying to give you some positive feelings in a time when you're hurting. I would probably NEVER post the details of something like this story on some internet forum, but I understand why you would/have. It's another slice of the BH life, and you're putting it out there...good, bad, or indifferent.
For true Dog People, losing your Best Friend is one of life's most painful experiences. I know that. I hope you just hang in there and realize there is another dog out there waiting for you to make his life wonderful. I hope anybody who would "hate" on you for this or whatever else you might post here never causes you to change the core of who you areEnvy is ignorance. Imitation is suicide.

You did the right thing BH. No choice. I ha a very similar thing happen with a mastiff I had. I know exactly what you are talking about. It was a sad day for me too but, I knew it ha to be done.
You did the right thing for him as well. No dog that loves his family wants to hurt them. And unfortunately he was literally losing control. It would have ended badly.I'm a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Put all of that out of your mind, because no matter how anyone feels about you, or how you feel about anyone, or anything that's transpired between you and anyone else, it's pretty messed up if anyone says anything like that to you. You did the right thing for all involved. In addition to having to protect your family, you can't know how much TyRoc might suffer in the future or if he was already suffering. He came to you for some reason and was where he was supposed to be, for as long as he was supposed to be.

Very sorry to hear. Not that it means any consolation, but you know you did the right thing. The responsible thing. Having been in a very similar situation with our bull mastiff (who got a brain tumor), I know you take serious your responsibility as a dog owner....and more importantly with a large dog, it's master.
As difficult as this was, is nothing to what you would have to live with if he harmed one of your loved ones....especially the little ones.
Much respect.RAW lifts

Sorry for your loss BH. Putting your best friend down was awful but it was the right thing to do. Peace brother.

Damn, John . . . sorry to hear that. Had a semi-similar experience with my wife's dog when our son was around 2. But his issue was that he was just getting old, arthritic and grumpy. He had bitten our sister in law and her dad (but we chalked it up to him just being scared), but he was just generally being less amiable. One day he snapped at our son when he was petting him and that was that. We knew we had to put him down--and that was just a Keeshond and not a pitbull.
Never an easy thing to do . . . but really, when it comes to kids and family there is just no decision to be made as hard as it may be. You did the right thing. Remember the good times you had with him.*MFC Elder Statesmen Cabinet Crew*
