My cousin is only 23 and has been very sick for too long. She has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and Lupus.
This is an example of a high calorie day. She says this is more food then usual. She told me what she ate today and it sounds like 1000~ calories.
*I do see she put only 21g of beef which is clearly incorrect. I imagine it was a small proton of beef.
She says she can not consume the following. (Natural path doctor's orders) She says she has been to a regular doctor and the natural has been the most effective.
-Wheat
-Pop
-Egg
-Garlic
-Carrot
-Celery
-Cow Milk
-Alcohol
She has been sick since August 2010 and had chronic pain for 6 weeks. Sometimes the pain is only in her ribs causing pain while breathing making it impossible to sleep. Other days it is all over her body and even cooking food is a difficult and painful task. Today she ate less and puked later on.
I'm no doctor but I don't need to be to know that her protein intake is beyond insufficient and I don't see how she will ever get any better only consuming 30g~ protein per day. She is also very sedentary because of the pain and we all know being sedentary is unhealthy and depressing. The pain also kills her appetite completely. It's an awful paradox but this is all I know so far.
My question is: Any ideas of easy to digest and hold down protein sources for a sensitive person like this?

85% of my protein comes from:
-Beans: Mashed, purée, made into a soup
-Quinoa(seed): I eat it with a dash of salt I'm not picky. Cook as if u were cooking oatmeal with like a 1:4-5ish ratio of quinoa to water
-Whey Powder, I find it hard to it alot of protein myself.
-Candied Nuts , the sugar opens my apeititeSeek truth and reason

I think those are both auto immune disorders...i.e. the body's immune system attacking itself.
Rice protein is a great hypoallergenic choice as a supplement since she can't do egg or milk/whey. Hopefully her holistic doc had addressed nutrition with her. She could make a diet of healthy fats, fruits, veggies, meat, nuts, etc. if she's throwing up there's probably something else going on.

She has been seeing doctors for almost 2 years. I just noticed her low protein intake and it seems the doctors haven't even thought about it.
She can not have wheat her doc says. It's just frustrating and clear to me that shes not getting any better and how obviously unhealthy her protein intake is.
I wouldn't mind mentioning them to her. Did you have something specific in mind?Control group crew membership revoked 7/5/2022 1:50pm PST not proud.

While her protein is deficient so is her overall caloric intake. I would work with trying to get her a little more active and eating more. Since it isn't a muscle/strength building situation then her protein intake isn't completely awful. Especially with raised calories, she'd probably get close to recommendations.

Unfortunately for her circumstances especially, she is a dedicated Jehovah witness as well as her parents. It has crossed my mind as well and it saddens me to know she wouldn't even consider it just because of the bad stigma she has about "drugs" yet she's ok with doctor prescribed pain "medication." *Le sigh.
With the chronic pain so bad she has a difficult time making food and walking physical activity is a no no unfortunately.Last edited by Joseph1990; 01-14-2013 at 05:09 PM.

Unfortunately it's just as I thought.
Me:There is a medication that has been known to help with both pain and hunger. It is also 100% natural. Have you considered it?
Perhaps speaking with your doctor about it may be worth the conversation to at least have her opinion.
I don't see how it can be any worse then the synthetic drugs they must be giving you for pain. Her:I won't smoke pot if that's what you are suggesting.
It makes u high. I won't do thatMe:I figured you would say that.
In your situation being high would only be a side effect.
Out of my own curiosity that wont let me not ask.
Why would you not consider pot if it may help you? Her:As a Jehovah witness we do not smoke, or do drugs that make u high. (Yet she's perfectly fine with drinking and being drunk)
If I had cancer. And I had the option of getting that in capsules. ....Then it would be a conscience matter
