Is anyone else planning to see this movie? I know it isn't going to follow the book very well because of obvious age difference from the cast and the book, but I feel like I have no choice in watching this film despite the inevitable butchering of the story. Fans have been waiting way too long for a film adaptation. I hope that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the result of bad screenplay and other things, as I don't want to see Gavin Hood destroying this book.

Needless to say, I was surprised with Moises Arias being casted as Bonzo. Really? I thought Bonzo was supposed to be handsome. He looks like a phucking monkey. I think he's shorter than Asa too. How is he going to be menacing towards Ender if he looks like a joke? I don't think that their fight scene will look too dark.
At first, I was pretty angry at Brendan Meyer being chosen for Stilson. I didn't like the fact that he was starring in a Disney XD show. I do think he's capable of pulling off a few lines and getting his ass whooped by Ender, though. As for the rest of the cast, I think they're alright considering the new ages that the film is trying to pull off. There's some big names in there, so I can see that the casting directors are trying to make this film good, although very different.
The fact that Summit Entertainment (the people who brought us the greatest film series of all time, Twilight notsrs) acquired rights for this film scares me. I honestly hope that no stupid teen love story gets thrown into the mix. That would drop this movie's rating down to a zero for me. Regardless, the budget should be pretty high considering their profits. They do have some good films under their belt like The Hurt Locker, however.
So, what are your guys' opinions on this? Is this good or bad? Do you think this movie has a chance of being good even though it'll ultimately deviate from the novel? What do you think of the cast? Are they too old to pull off Ender's Game? Did they choose the right people for their respective roles? Who should be chosen for the remaining roles? Who should compose the music for this film? Hans Zimmer? Trent Reznor? Does Gavin Hood have potential?

For everyone that is thinking of picking up these books I highly suggest to read the entire series. It is more than ten books but well worth the time. On a side note I just looked over the cast and I am dissapoint son. The only one that I liked was "Bean". The kid playing Wiggin and the girl playing Petra are just too childish... I also loled hard at Peter Wiggin, I cross my fingers they do not make this into a kids movie...

It's kind of hard to put this book into cliffs, but I'll try:
- Ender is sent to Battle School for his tactical knowledge and the weight of the world is put on his shoulders vs the buggers
- He's constantly tormented and constantly feels bad about his position and fears that he'll run out of ideas
- Keeps going back to the fantasy game which basically explains his inner battle with himself such as seeing himself as Peter
- Eventually goes to war with the Buggers through a simulation game, but he doesn't realize that it isn't a game
- He wins the war through unorthodox methods and realizes that he made the buggers extinct, and he becomes depressed
- Ends up visiting a planet that was created by the buggers that was the exact same as the fantasy game and he finds an egg that contains the queen of the buggers

bump for morning Misc, here's my current take on the cast to make this post less worthless:
Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin:
Probably the best choice for Ender right now if you consider the age group of the cast. I liked his acting in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, but he has aged considerably since then. I haven't seen Hugo, but judging from online reviews, it seems to be a good film. If Asa doesn't play Ender properly, this movie is definitely going to be terrible. If it makes anything different, he seems to be a video game junkie judging by his tweets. That might affect how the fantasy game plays out.
Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham:
Kingsley looks badass enough to play Mazer Rackham. He has a lot of acting experience in a wide variety of films. I've seen a lot of them, and I think he can pull it off. He's a reputable actor.
Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian:
Her biggest selling point is True Grit, in which she was nominated an Oscar for. I've never actually watched the remake, but I've seen clips of her performance. I think she can play the part well, but she doesn't look like the Petra I imagined while reading the book. Regardless, I'm excited to see if she is capable of doing more than one great film; it would suck if she's just a one hit wonder.
Brendan Meyer as Stilson:
There's nothing more to say about him aside from my description of him in the OP.
Harrison Ford as Hyrum Graff:
A lot of people were mad about this. I personally don't mind him being cast for Graff. I don't think the film will ever show Graff progressively gaining weight, but that's beside the point. Ford has a lot of acting experience and he starred in a lot of famous movies. I have full confidence that he'll play Graff to the best of his abilities.
Abigail Breslin as Valentine Wiggin:
Eh, she's decent at best. I didn't really like her character in Zombieland, but she has the biggest name out of all the child actors in this list. She was too young in Signs to make any judgment, and that movie wasn't even good. I do think that she can act, but she isn't the character I pictured whilst reading Ender's Game. I would've rather seen Elle Fanning if all of the other actors weren't that old.
Aramis Knight as Bean:
This kid definitely has to be the best choice for Bean. I can't think of anyone else who could play that character. He has a distinct look that makes it feel like he's the Bean I imagined, and he's pretty short compared to the other actors. He hasn't had any huge roles, though. I haven't seen Rendition, so I'm not too sure about his acting skills. Bean plays a key role in the book, so I hope he doesn't mess this up.
Moises Arias as Bonzo:
Oh god, I talked about him in my OP. I can't imagine this ******* as anyone else other than Rico from Hannah Montana. If they don't digitally make him taller and bigger than Asa, he's going to look like the least threatening character ever. I'll just be reminded of his banter with Jackson in Hannah Montana. To be less harsh though, I do think he has potential in terms of playing the role well enough to be a prideful and menacing character, but it'll be extremely hard to pull off considering his look.
Jimmy Pinchak as Peter:
Wtf? Why this guy? He looks a little too weird to be Peter, but I can't think of anyone else who could play the part. I don't know much child actors. He needs to change that hairstyle if he wants to look a little more menacing. I can't really judge, though. He played a bully before, but Peter's character is much more deeper than that. On second thought, Charlie Rowe (the ******* who played Peter in that terrible miniseries Neverland) looks like he could be Asa's older brother. He doesn't look evil enough, but I think he would have been able to pull off Peter's psychopathic personality. Here's his IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2185462/
Conor Carroll as Bernard:
I don't know this guy at all. I think it'll be funny to see this guy's arm get wrecked, but that's about it. Bernard isn't as menacing as Peter as a bully, so I can see why they chose this guy. He looks like he can pull off the generic ring leader fat guy bully look.
Khylin Rhambo as Dink Meeker:
I didn't expect this guy at all. I didn't even know that Dink was black. He doesn't have much of an acting background, so I can't say anything about his acting abilities.
Suraj Parthasarathy as Alai:
I know this sounds bad, but I wanted Jaden Smith to be Alai (srs). I can't see this kid as being the eventual ring leader for all of the Launchies. No hate. He's apparently a good singer, but that has nothing to do with Alai's role in the book.
I'm interested to see who they're going to cast as Anderson and how they're going to show Graff and Anderson's conversations at the beginning of each chapter. I think it would be a little weird for the movie to keep cutting to their conversations, but the movie would definitely be different without it. I'm also interested in how they're going to make the Buggers look. They always reminded me of the prawns in District 9, but they looked a little silly.
