I think I said, "Oh God!" about a million times while watching that. My 7 year old laughed repeatedly, though, and kept saying, "these people are stupid."

I was looking to see if that was the grip used on all the bench presses. I don't think it was. I don't know why anyone would ever use it for any lift.

Most likely a blood choke, a really unfortunate and rare accident that only happens on cleans and front squats when the bar cuts off the carotid artery. I've had it happen before. It sucks.

There is a reason why they call them a suicide bench press grip... Spotters failed several times.

Is that where you don't wrap your thumb around the front of the bar & just set the bar on

Yeah, the suicide grip is not wrapping your thumb around the bar.

Odd thing is, on this video and others I've seen like it, about half the bench accidents involve using sucide grip; the other grip (thumb around bar) would seem safer yet it isn't. (No, I have no stats on who wraps and who doesn't, just what I've seen).

Anyway, unless it's a competitive meet, doing benches without a power rack and/or reliable spotters AND going above what you can safely do is just madness...

Thanks, it also shows how useless spotters are if 1 isn't quick enuff. In the clip @ 1:40 the spotter basically dropped the bar on the guy-- I do under hand spotting, always keeping my hands underneath.
