Have 50k to spend on a new car, what to get?

Looking to spend around 50k on a new/used car. Must be modifiable as I want to customize it a little. Looking for a 2 door coupe year 2005+ probably. Trying to get as much HP as I can and for the buck. Any ideas what to look into? Also, is it better to buy an already modded car that I can upgrade a little or a stock car and make all the modifications myself?
