Hey.
I'm just getting started with weight-lifting at the moment, and i'm looking to set myself some goals, so my question is, what is a respectable deadlift weight? I don't mean something you'd be impressed with, but something you would not consider weak.
BTW, I do romanian deadlifts. Cheers guys.

this is just for general deadlifts but it'll gve you an idea;

The biggest secret in life is not that we go through life discovering ourselves but that we go through life creating our selves. Think about that.

I could give a real diplomatic answer like oohh everyone has different goals and its all relative to what heavy is bul**** like that, so instead im going to say a deadlift that would make the general public go 'ohh nice' would be 350+ this isnt based on anything at all.
For weight trainers training a while a deadlift of 550+ would get me more impressed.~~~~~~~~~~

That is sweet.
Well at the fitness center I sometimes work out at people look at me like I am a freak of nature when I dead 3 plates. Then a pt comes by and usually asks me to deadlift quietly.
At my real gym, I don't even think you get on the PR board without breaking 500lbs.
I was amazed when I got 3 plates and thought I would be happy with 4 plates, but now I want 5. If I get 5, I am sure I will want six......http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=126921813

I could have said I dl the tail end of small cars and if you cant your just a noob but I wont do this Its just not me j/k
I was deadlifting last night in my gym as a matter of fact and the lady on the treadmill next to me was like :O when I didnt realize on my 2nd to last set (which was only two reps) I finally managed to bust my shin open Blood was running down my leg and I kept going until she was like "hey! your bleeding!" I was like..oh... took the towel and wiped it off and continued She was in awe and that was priceless regardless of what weight I had on the bar (which was near my max at 135lb's.)

Yeah, we have 3lb plates in my gym, I'm gong for 3 on each side tonight!
Sprog is right, a bit more than bodyweight should be your repectable goal. When I hit 5x bodyweight on SS I was stoked. Next up bodyweight squat x5. It would be easier of course if Iwas not such a fat f***.
I hit 297x5 last time (we have kg plates 135kg ~ 297lb) was sorely tempted to overreach and add the extra bit...next time.

^ this.
i've noticed to that once i got to 315 heads started turning. of course this can be good and bad, sure respect is nice but when people start staring and waiting for me to pick it up again/add more... i'm getting better at blocking out spectators.
what really grinds my gears is when guys will just walk right in front of me when it's obvious i'm getting ready to pull. anyone else think this is just rude? to me, it'd be like if someone was about to bench heavy and i ran up and hurdled over them.Last edited by Jack_Lupino; 04-19-2010 at 11:26 AM.
