It can relieve joint pain, clear out your pores and make you lose some water weight temporarily (obviously).

15-30mins is good. I love steam rooms. Only certain location of my gym have one, which sucks.

I can't think of any negatives of steam/sauna for someone healthy. Not a good idea if you have high blood pressure, or heart problems.

It helps me breath better and calms me down, not sure about any other effects. I only do it sometimes mean to do it more I just like the relaxed feeling I get after words. ZEN

I agree with this, but it seems that other than this there are no other benefits, but it there also doesn't seem to be any negative affects from it either.

Any one else have any thoughts to add?

    Saunas cleanse and rejuvenate skin.
A radiant and pink skin become a reality.
Mental and physical relaxation is also a major benefit of sauna use.
In addition, saunas relax sore muscles and help in relieving stress and tension. The sauna also improves one's immune system, metabolic rate and circulation. Arthritis patients can benefit temporarily by taking sauna baths

    SAUNA USAGE TIPS

What is the appropriate temperature for a sauna?
Temperature range depends on user's preference but is typically between 150 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the higher you sit in a sauna (upper bench versus lower bench), the hotter the temperature will be.

How long should I stay in the sauna?
Use common sense as to what feels comfortable. Typically, stay in the sauna for 10-15 minutes, step out and cool off, then return to the sauna for another "inning." Repeat as desired. Don't overdo it. Set the temperature and humidity level to your comfort level. If you begin to feel uncomfortable, leave the sauna and cool off. Always consult physician if concerned.

Does using a sauna help me lose weight?
A typical sauna session can burn up to 300 calories*. This will cause your body to lose water which may result in a temporary weight loss. (*Richard B. Pearce, PhD, Sauna vs Steam, SHAPE, February 1987)

If trying to gain muscle I wouldn't go immediatly after lifting. Water Depleation may affect the rebuilding of muscle tissue after workouts.

    Just my 2 cents.

HOWEVER - read that again - HOWEVER, the duration over which this would need to occur coupled with the core temperature elevation required would likely be prohibitive to inducing significant effects. Furthermore, dehydration presents a problem itself. Proper hydration is important to support fat metabolism since dehydration can impair the liver's role in fat metabolism. Dehydration can also increase cortisol levels.

So, not only can it inihibit fat loss, you'll probably gain weight back from rebound water retention.

Heat stress also increases growth hormone levels.

Again, I wouldn't expect any effects from this as the time you would need to spend exposed to the conditions would be prohibitive and the net effect would likely be nil or minus due to other mitigating factors.
