Mine smells horrible after I use ON whey... before each use I rinse it with hot water and about once a week I use soapy water to clean it good. My roommate didn't use his for about a week and when he opened it up to clean it the smell filled our room... I don't get why they get like that so easily.

Never leave anything in your cup for more and 30 minutes. The bacteria starts to grow fast in it because of what the whey is made from. If you don't have time to clean out your cup make sure you at lease rinse it several times.

Also you should never wait more than 10 minutes to drink your shake.

Really, what happens if you leave it out for more than 10 minutes.

I once forgot to clean my shaker after use...a week+ later i opened it and my whole downstairs smelled like death. my family kept asking me what died.

This is weird. No matter how well I wash my protein shaker, the next time I go to use it, it smells like ****. Is this normal? It's the GNC 4 dollar cheapie... is it just the plastic or is it residue from my protein?

I got so annoyed with it that I filled it a third of the way with antibacterial dish soap and washed it. and still. wtf.

I was away from town for 5 days and I went to use it again and I'm pretty sure I found a few maggots in it. No joke. Can I clean it out with bleach or something because I'm too grossed out to drink out of it again.

I highly suggest against bleach. But there is this stuff called Shaker Cleaner available at shakercleaner.com which actually gets rid of that smell. And it doesn't really have to do with the cheapy shaker from GNC, plastic is porous and absorbs those smells, but shaker cleaner gets it out

Put hot water and baking soda in it. Let it sit over night. Takes the smell out of mine when I have let milk rot in it before.

All of my shakers smelled after the first couple of uses even after running them through the washer multiple times, baking soda, isopropyl alcohol, bleach none of them worked. But today I found a big bottle of hydrogen peroxide in my cabinets and figured why not, **** worked liked magic! I put half a cup in the shaker then added a bit of water shook it for like 2 mins and no more smell.

There is a quote. Something like.. "when the finest of things rot, they will be rotten at the best". Whey is derived from milk. Milk rots fast and whey(milk derivative) rots faster and creates stronger odour than milk.
