1) Being gay is not natural.
And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay.
In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all.
Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed.
And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children.
So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children.
Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion.
In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
(Did I miss the lesson where Jesus says He hates gays?)
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.
Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms.
Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

I consider myself to be rather open-minded (who doesn't?) as long as people have decent reasons for their opinions and/or beliefs...
I'm against the war, but I could see why you'd be for it.
I'm pro-choice, but I could see why you'd be pro-life.
Etc.
But this is one issue I won't waver on. There is no real justification for denying gays the right to marry. It's absurd. There is no logical foundation for the opposition whatsoever.O-H, motherfcuker.

If churches don't want to marry gays, that's their prerogative.
BUT we should also keep in mind that churches are exempt from a number of taxes, and while nobody should force them to marry gays, you can make the argument that if a specific church isn't willing to, their tax exempt status should be called into question. If they don't have to pay taxes, then taxpaying gay citizens should be able to marry there.O-H, motherfcuker.

Yes, I agree.
If you mean not forcing churches to marry gays, that's not going to happen. Religious organizations will always be free to conduct their services and rituals according to their beliefs.
There are some churches and synagogues who freely and happily bless same sex unions. That is their right also, as it is the right of the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church to refuse to do so.
In any case, a marriage does not exist without a civil license first. Marriage IS a civil matter, not religious.Last edited by Minotaur; 10-30-2008 at 06:32 AM.

People throw the words "accept" and "acceptance" around an awful lot, like they do with the terms "threat to marriage" and "preserve the sanctity of marriage", not to meniotn "activist judges" and "legislating from the bench". But I have yet to hear a valid or rational definition of those terms. Can you provide one?

Why do you think these things? You do not have to accept gay people. You simply have to tolerate us. We are fellow citizens and deserve all the same rights you take for granted. We need make no "excuses", we are what we are. The law makes no distinctions in or gives preference to any religion, race, or sexual preference. Or it shouldn't.

the irony of a man who proclaims the love of jesus who refuses to accept those who are different than himself.
in the words of your savior arent we all sinners?
arent we all children of god?
arent we all deserving of the love of jeeeeesus?
why would you single out this particular group and expose them to unfairness?
if everyone is a sinner than everyone deserves to be treated equally!
either you do not understand the religion that you follow, or your religion is a hypocritical and highly flawed farce!"As sure as the world stands, you jf1 shall spend an eternity in Hell in eternal torment..."
