If I get a carry permit, then yes. I'd prefer to carry it with me. (After doing some reading, it seems like 99% of the applications are turned down, so I don't think I'll ever get to own one.)
Or would it have to stay in your house?
Budget?
What kind of guns/ammunition do you guys have access to over there?
Are there any types of guns that are more/less socially acceptable than others, among what is available?

If you were a United States resident or citizen, you wanted to buy a gun, and you wanted the ability to carry it on your person, I would recommend a Ruger or Smith and Wesson revolver chambered in either .38 special or .357 magnum, one of the many semi automatics in 9mm that are available. I like Glock, but there are a lot of other choices to check out such as a Smith and Wesson M&P, H&K, Walther, etc. Specific model, a Glock 26 or Glock 19, would cost $500 USD + tax here. And then you'd need ammo and what not too, but the basic gun would be $500.
If you were totally not concerned with carrying it with you, on that budget, I'd probably recommend a pump 12 gauge shotgun, preferably a Remington or Mossberg

Yeah, I'd want laser sights, too. Scratch that - I'd be willing to shell out $1000 USD if I were an American (per capita there is a lot higher).
A shotgun would be too cumbersome to carry around, although that is one weapon that I'd like to keep at home.
What do you think of the Desert Eagle? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMI_Desert_Eagle
The most recent model, the Mark XIX, is available in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and .50 Action Express (or .50 AE).

Isn't a laser useful? I thought you wouldn't need to focus (barely).
A bloke got robbed by two men once at night. T'was a lonely area and these two goons told him his tyre was deflated. When he got out of his car to check, they both got their knives out and asked him for his wallet/watch/chains. I was quite surprised by his story because he was a big guy (5'11", 240 lbs). It didn't look like he lifted weights, but he looked tough.
So if a guy like that can get robbed by two f*ckfaces with knives, it can happen to me too. I just thought the laser would make hitting the target(s) a whole lot easier.

SS question.
I alternate back and front squats, so I was thinking of doing 5x3 FS instead of 3x5. Does that sound alright to you guys, or should I just stick to the 3x5 scheme?
Don't laugh, little J. I've seen people carry shotguns and rifles around in their trucks. That's what I thought Farley was implying when he said what he said.

Yes, that was what I wanted to stick with, but I've always read (one of Pavel Tsatsouline's books) you shouldn't do more than three reps because your upper back will fatigue first. I guess I can do sets of five now, but when I reach the 270+ mark, I'll have to change that.

More than 3? I thought it was more than 6... Anyway, I wouldn't limit myself to some specific number of reps just because a book said so. You'll know when your back fatigues (form will break down and you'll round over) so when it does, stop the set and count it as a failure. Ugly front squats don't count as front squats. The whole point is to stay tight and upright.
Pavel also said some bullsh!t like if your front squat isn't at least 85% of your back squat then you have structural imbalances...Planted like a tree beside the river of truth.

I have to walk through filth every time my phone runs out of bandwidth. Today was worse than the other days. Lots of traffic and hence pollution, there was poop everywhere (dog, I think) and these bastards here love spitting all over the place. Yuck. This is why my country sucks big time; the people are filthy and have no civic sense whatsoever.
^ There. I just gave the prejudiced people some ammo.
The front squat poundage will also depend upon how strong your core is. I remember, the first time I did my first working set, my abs were on fire; it was nothing like I had felt before. I thought it'd feel like heavy situps, lols.
Ratios are dumb anyway. Who gives a sh*t about them? As long as you're lifting respectable numbers, you are golden.
