IFBB pro's are in a different category. They also use something more than "proper" nutrition that aids them in optimal growth .
I've tried higher fats, but seem to perform better with higher carbs and moderate fats. During prep, the fellas at 3dmj figured out that my body burns through carbs like nobody's business lol. Plus I like to eat lots of cereal and pop tarts*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*

Haha of course, I know they are, it's just a difficult concept to grasp because so many of us who love bodybuilding watch their training videos for motivation, etc. But in the end, what works for them (training, nutrition) isn't what is gonna work for us natural guys.
Haha definitely a carboholic, I'm the same way. I still have 8 weeks to go but I can't help thinking of different ways to train/diet after the show.
Btw, have you ever tried a traditional bodybuilding style split? If so, what kind of results did you get compared to the "strength geared" training you are doing now?Bulking Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=145737171&p=900538741#post900538741

This is actually only my 2nd time on a true strength geared program. I used to always train like a bodybuilder, and for a long time I used a hybrid of fat. Other than giving Sheiko a go, this is the only other time I've truly trained for pure strength. I honestly think a combination of both, with emphasis on getting stronger will net natural guys the best results.
Carbs are great, but getting in a ton of carbs on low fats can be challenging*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*

Yeah I have always trained like a bodybuilder up until doing starting PHAT during my prep. I'm contemplating going back to a bodybuilding split because I feel like when I'm low on energy, the longer workouts take a toll on me (i.e. workout starts out good, but as it progresses I start to actually lose pump not increase it) and therefore some bodyparts are getting the short end of the stick. Ever feel like this?
Definitely! Hitting 390 CHO with fats at 35g on refeeds can be tough!Bulking Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=145737171&p=900538741#post900538741

I know strength progression is the only way a natty is gonna progress, but isn't the "pump" work for sarcoplasmic hypertrophy part of the equation as well? After all, three out of five days a week I'm doing "pump" work on the hyper days and I can't imagine that I'm wasting my time .

Agreed here....I think you are really best served by mixing things up a bit. IMOP, training for strength is good purely for the fact that it eventually allows you to train heavier in the higher rep ranges. Otherwise, its a lot of beating and toll on your body for bodybuilding purposes.
Me too. Major inspiration when I stop in here. I just have to stop coming in here when I am in the dog days of prep....I go out ma' mind!"Who the Son sets free is free indeed....."

I actually got those from the bakery section of my local grocery. They're not too big. Macros were : 0.5/31/5
Totally agree!
There are two types of people who visit my thread : The ones who avoid it like the plague as they get deeper into prep, and then the people who are like me... the ones who look at more and more food pron as prep goes on. Why do I torture myself so?
Only if I get to wear the apron backwards!
Burritos ftw!!!
I'm drooling... out of my penor. wut
Offseason I freestyle my stuff as the day goes on. So much easier that way IMO
Glad I could help get the creative juices flowing
I could never do that when I was deep into prep. I commend you, good sir! I would figure out my fitday the day prior, that way I would have a huge meal pre bed. Starting during the day and going to bed full is where it's at! lol*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*

Felt great today. Strength is progressing nicely and the scale is moving in the right direction. I also FINALLY got past this part in FFVI that was giving me trouble. I beat it three times but once my system froze, the other time I ran out of time RIGHT at the end, and the other time I only beat the first boss lol. Got past it and it helped fuel my workout lol. Got to talk to my guidance counselor today and head off to work! When I get home, I should have for time for FF... nerding out ftw!*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*

heck yeah man awesome PR's. i used to never do overhead press either, but i've been doing them recently and progress has been relatively quick. i used to REALLY suck at pullups/chinups since i used to be a fat kid, but i've really worked on them and they've gotten much better

HAHAHA you nailed it! That was a beotch and a half!
Thanks, Patrick! Definitely loving the 5/3/1. My chins aren't that great because I am a form nazi on them. No swing at all, full extension, stretch and squeeze
That's correct. I'm horrible at pull ups. Used to be able to get 8 wide grip pull ups with 45lbs strapped to me... oh the good old days when I was chunky and strong like bull!

So far, so good! Are you doing the boring but big version? I just started that this time around and actually like it more than the bodybuilder template.
I woke up today just shy of 170, so I don't think I could OHP that . Maybe after a few more weeks of 5/3/1
I've seen a lot of people doing kipping chins at the gym... If I'm going for that many reps, I'll just use the pull up assist machine lol*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*
