Your wife is "thinking" of buying this $900 bag?? She already bought it bro! Now she is dealing with the guilt of hiding it that is why she is telling you. Her thought of stopping two months of her student loan payments sounds like a justification for a $hitty decision! Women logic... her friend will love this $900 bag until a new line comes out then it will be "out of style". Then next year your wife will have to buy her a more expensive/better gift otherwise it won't seem as "special". Put your foot down and stop this shiet now OP...or risk your wife spending a $1000+ for her friends birthday every year!

Sounds like its a rich friend who your wife wants to impress = getting her a 900$ purse. Easy to assume this givin the friends situation.
Normally Id say its your money spend it how you like but...stopping student loan payments for 2 months to pay for it? The most retarded idea I have ever heard.Bench - 900 3x5

Your wife sounds like her heart's in the right place -- wanting to get a really nice gift for her good friend -- but she should really wait to be spending that kind of money until she's finished her residency and cleared her student loans. It's a nice thought but definitely too extravagant, why not just take her out to a nice dinner or something? Will be a fraction of the cost and she can still feel like she treated her friend to something special for her birthday. I mean, it's just a bit silly to be spending that much money on one gift for one person, at least when you don't REALLY have the money for it.

Nicely said. I honestly don't think my wife had any malicious intent. She knows it's extravagant, that's why she's running the idea by me (she said several times that she knew it's a crazy idea) to see what I think. I think she's just desperate for a gift idea, and lacks the time to think up of a great one. The best friend gave her an awesome professionally-designed photo album with pictures of them growing up, and I think my wife feel the need to do something equally nice back.

I've always hated to be part of the problem and not the solution, so I offered to help her think of a nice gift. Any suggestions misc? For my wife's birthday, the best friend gave her an awesome photo-album that was professionally made (the pictures are printed onto the pages) of them growing up together. I know it's hard to think of personal gifts without knowing the best friend, but I would appreciate any genuine suggestions.

OP $900 is not really that much if you look at how ballin ur wife will be real soon if shes already a 2year resident
also, she is already responsible if she makes a $1k loan payment monthly
having said that, $900 is crazy to spend on a freind. Are they long time bffs ? this makes it more acceptable, also would her friend reciprocate this type of gift? why not a cheaper coach purse

OP, you brought this upon yourself when you clearly married a materialistic retard....who could even consider a $900 purse, let alone for a friend.
