the one time I repped 225 was from a couple years ago, and I have quit and restarted training a couple times. At that time I could have probably benched 415 or so. Why do you rep out 225? A lot of it is probably training styles. I rarely do reps higher than 5 while flat benching. Also, the additional bodyweight probably doesn't hurt.

Oh no no... I did it just to see how many times I could do it... Hadn't done it since back in March(8 months ago)... That day I paused 315 for 4, 330 for 2 and put on 225 just to see how many times I could do it and I did it 20 sometimes that day... However I do start with it as a warm-up every monday(international chest day)
I watched you do it 29 times in your video and I thought "I can do that" but then I'm watching you do 455 and there's no way I can even come close...Bench-press- 225x30 best gym lift- 350x4 @ 178

I saw your basement gym and it's such a better environment then the public gyms, I've just started implementing an arch myself and have seen some great results thus far, but I slip for sure at times and having a wide upper back doesn't help. I'll probably get yelled at for chalking the bench but it may be worth a shot.

Our basement gym is the best investment I could have made. Its taken our training to a new level. As far as your arch, its a continual work in progress. I'm always working on leg drive, upper and lower body tightness, and the arch. I hear ya about the chalk thing. I hear those rubber mat things you put in your cupboards at home work great, so give that a shot.

Not to be a dick, but I think the simplest answer is the right one here, he is much much stronger than you at maximal weights, judging from your sig it appears that you do a lot of high rep stuff that is certainly above average but not unheard of by any means whereas he is probably the best pound for pound bencher amongst regulars on this forum.

While I used to be concerned about "pound for pound" strength, its not longer a concern of mine. The main goal of mine is ultimate strength. 500+ raw/natty no matter what the weight. But to each his own. When I was like 21 I did 405@ 180, but I think 455+ @ 210 is more impressive.

Coachdeez is exactly right. This is why the Wilks formula exists (to compare lifters of different body weights).
You guys are both strong as s h i t on the bench press, and I'm impressed by you both. But, Dan does have a slight edge.
Forrrest, imagine what your bench press would be like if you added some body weight. What if you weighed 200lbs.? You can't tell me that benching 425+ doesn't interest you. I hope you're not one of those guys who wants to "stay lean" and keep your six pack. You have excellent strength at a relatively light body weight; imagine where you'd be if you packed on 25lbs.

Not even close. As much as I hate to argue science (BW multipliers are certainly science), I'll let you in on a little secret, 295x12=/=375-400, pausing 335x2 and then burning out with 225 20 something times certainly does not. I do not believe you can bench press 375 much less 400, so why don't you throw 375 on the bar and get a video up just for your own edification because anybody who has actually maxed in that area realizes just how far off rep max calculators (which I have to assume you are using) usually are, particularly in higher rep ranges. When I have done 375 or 380 I actually probably couldn't do 295 as many times as I could when I was training in higher rep ranges and missed 365 when I maxed.

dan_g_28- First off great lift. Had no intention this thread would head this direction. I was looking for friendly advice on why our max was so far apart when we do 225 for the same. Some guy said you are the better bencher' which is probably true but I had to depend my stance with the pound for pound percent. Interesting how the only guys who had a problem with that were 200pds or more. But once agin great lift. Keep bustin' ass.. good luck to 500.
dtaps24- You caught me off guard. Haven't been liftin well lately... been looking for motivation.. guess that's why I'm here... but here's that vid. Took it yesterday. When I fully recover from my herniated disc surgery(mri in pics) I had in May I'll def. post that one rep max.. until then here's 295 for 12 @ 175 poundsBench-press- 225x30 best gym lift- 350x4 @ 178

Body weight multipliers aren't very accurate...a 150lb guy can squat two times his body weight within a few months of training, but a 350lb guy who squats twice his body weight is a beast squatter, to say the least. This is what Wilks was developed for...it gives a more accurate representation of pound for pound strength, but frankly, unless you're a either a woman or a tiny 120lb dude its pretty gay to pull the Wilks card. But since I weigh about 200lbs I guess what I say doesn't matter to you....but I'm sure a lot of the smaller guys in here will agree with me.
