I am a personal fan of DB flys because you can get so many diffrent excersizes out of them. Incline,decline,regular...and when your done with flys you can move right on too DB press. Machines are too linear for me.

I'm not a fan of the traditional pec deck that puts your forearms parallel to your body. I think it puts your shoulders in a more vulnerable position, especially if you try to go heavy. I prefer either a machine that leaves your arms perpendicular to your body or dumbbell flyes. My favorite is cable flyes because you can maintain constant tension even when you bring your hands together. With dumbbells, I find I have to stop the movement short at the top to keep the tension on my chest.

Use both, switch it up. Both the pec dec and dumbbell flys have their benefits.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

i usually do pec flys cause i dont have to worry about balancing my arms....thats why i dont like dumbell flys cause i always gotta worry about balancing my arms....i dont know maybe its just me but does anyone else have this problem? i can see though why dumbell flys are good, i might start to do them more often as people say that its better to do free weights rather than machines....does anyone else here agree with that or it doesnt really matter.

DB flys do not provide consistant tension on the muscle the way a machine or cables do, by the time your arms are up over your chest the weight is transferred to your arms and shoulders. not only that but the stress it puts on your elbows at heavier weights does not seem very healthy.
If what I see does not amaze me, I am not looking hard enough.

The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know.

Then don't let the DBs get over your chest. I see too many people bringing the DBs too close togather at the top. It's wasted motion and kills the tension on your chest. Watch the movie Pumping Iron and watch Arnold do flys and you'll see what I mean.

DB flys rock... if you do them right.

You don't exactly have the best chest I've ever seen so maybe you should get off the heavy pressing bandwagon and experiment with other things to find out whats optimal to get YOUR body to grow.

youre losing some of the ROM by doing this. a machine or a cable provides constant tension throughout the whole movement and less stress on the elbows.

Free Range of Motion is great with the DB Chest flys . . . and pec dec is cool if you need to work on focusing more . . .

Just watch the pec dec machine sometimes it could possibly go farther out of range (behind you) than it should depending on how loose the machine is
