Low gas prices and President Obama�s rising popularity are bolstering Hillary Clinton's chances of winning the White House, according to a closely followed economic election model from Moody's Analytics.

The August model forecasts that Clinton will notch a win over Trump, in part thanks to historically low gas prices and Obama�s popularity.

The model, which chooses a party, not a candidate, to win, awards Electoral College votes based on state-by-state outcomes.

The most important economic variable is income growth by state, including job and wage growth, hours worked and the quality of the jobs being created in the two years leading up to an election.

The latest forecast puts 16 states, which includes Washington, D.C., firmly in Democratic territory, with 11 more leaning in that direction for a total of 332 electoral votes.

If the gas goes any cheaper , California wants to try to pass a travel tax law to help pay for roads and highways cause the revenue from the gas prices has been cut substantially.

On the contrary, a president/leader absolutely has the power to influence oil prices and its use through mandate and/or legislation. Just look what Jimmy Carter did after the original oil crisis. Not to mention the restrictions during WWII. All influenced use, availability, and price. As well, flooding the market with our reserves can maintain or lower the price.

In fact, when you think about it, any leader's mere suggestion to cut back can have a far reaching influences when enough people follow that advice. To think otherwise would be either blind or extremely naive.

Obama has done a fantastic job of increasing oil production in the US such that it rivals that of Saudi Arabia right now.

That being said, the president has very limited control over the PPB. That number is largely dictated by oil demand and supply on a global basis.

Then OPEC and the government got involved because they believe fracking is too dangerous and slowed it/stopped it, crashing the industry. You can see it in the stock market clearly as it happened. We created a huge stock pile for many years in the short period of time companies were doing it unhindered.

So, when gas prices go back up, you can thank OPEC and the Obama admin for shutting down fracking. We can also thank him for now allowing the pipeline to go in, which would have decreased gas prices even more. So, in 99.9% of situations, the president is not responsible for the rise and fall of gas, however, Obama has made decisions that directly impact prices, and not for the better.

Some of you seem to have no idea what is happening in the oil industry at all, nor the stock market.
