When the nation relies on competency and responsibility, allowing the most incompetent to vote leads to dictators and tyrannical leaders.

Every person should be required to read Road to Serfdom to understand this concept. Illegals, immigrants that have no loyalty to a country, homeless, mentally disturbed, homeless, non contributing members of society are the most likely individuals to vote for tyrants. US citizens are allowed to vote regardless of wealth.

Are you aware some states used to require passing a literacy test to vote, among a host of other obstacles? They don't exist today for a reason, and it's not because those states suddenly saw the error of their ways.

When I do report for someone who loses a DL, I tell them not to panic, thst they're still in the LEADS system, as being valid, and all they have to do is go to the DMV with their report number, and get a new license.

How is it a "poll tax" to obtain an ID that's needed throughout normal life? Things I regularly need a photo ID for... driving, buying a car, cashier services at the credit union, flying, checking into a hotel, getting on a cruise, applying for a job (well, I don't do that regularly, but it was required to prove who I was), international travel.
Anyone who does ANY of those things already has a valid photo ID.

For those who don't drive, my state has Photo IDs for $24 (free for those over 65) valid for 8 years. Not sure how $3/year, even if solely used to vote, meets the criteria of a "poll tax" since it's not a tax paid to obtain a ballot. That's like claiming it's a "poll tax" that I need to wear clothes when voting.
