It has 1/4 of the worlds Rona cases at over 4 million, approaching 150,000 deaths attributed to Covid with no end in sight. People losing their sh!t over a piece of cloth.(Karens and Chads popping up everywhere) Protests up the whoop, erasing history by ripping down historical monuments that stood for years. Citizens in the streets waving their bang sticks at each other, some of them using them. Portland looks like a war zone, rubber bullets and tear gas are the nightly specials. This is the type of stuff we have seen for years in far off places and said, what a sh!thole. Not to mention the stellar presidential candidates for the 2020 election in a few months, 330 million people and that's the best we can come up with? Logistically, It is much, much easier than it has ever been. I have actually had a recurring dream about driving to the end of the earth since I was a kid. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I realized that Tuk may be that place.

I've lived here for over 40 years and take nothing for granted. I'm thankful for the little things that most people don't give a second thought (running water, air conditioning, toilet paper). Ok, maybe not toilet paper anymore. Some of these things my friends and family still in that country don't have access to. A car? You'd have to be rich to own one there. Or a crook.

I feel guilty sometimes that I was lucky enough to be able to come here and make something out of myself. This country gave me that opportunity. Don't get me wrong. I worked for everything that I got. Harder than most because I'm a foreigner. But I didn't complain because I didn't want anything handed to me. No freebies. No food stamps. No government aid. NADA. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

Thanks Fish. Like I said, this country is not perfect. I think the two party system divides the people. Hell, it divides families. Too often, you are so blindly biased to your own party that you can't see (or refuse to see) the other's POV. The health care system leaves a lot to be desired. Elderly care is severely lacking. No place is perfect. But some are infinitely better than others.

I'd rather not say Corbi. I know it's ridiculous but I am still paranoid to speak out against my former country 40 YEARS LATER. There was a reason why we left that godforsaken place (beyond what I've stated) that I don't care to divulge. Even in this seemingly insignificant forum. But I will tell you this. We take a lot for granted in this country. For some people it's because it's all they've ever known. Young kids who feels entitled. Older folks who should know better.

I urge everyone to take a step back, specially now with this chaos all around us, and take a long, hard look at your life. What you've done, what you have, your family, your job, your health. You may find that you're doing ok after all.
