Terrible analogy. A better analogy would be that the earth revolves around the sun because its tied to it with a string. You will also need your own piece of string too so you don't float away. But not just any string! You'll have to use this special string made from ancient solar particles, only available on my website, with auto-renewal monthly for only $89.99 per month per piece. Make sure you don't have any nylon string in your pockets or it will cancel the effect.

Yeah, I get that, but I don't think everyone is so vocal about being paleo. I remember a number of threads here where people said they wanted to go paleo and asked for advice, and got immediately shut down even though they weren't pushing that on anyone. They just had a couple of questions.
On the other hand, I met some girl at the gym a while back, and I learned she was paleo first time talking to her. She recommended the book Grain Brain. i think the big problem with the forums is how things resonate and amplify. even advocating common sense is tough to do sometimes. i'm sure i'm guilty of it too, when i take the time to post more often.
the problem i have with paleo is 2 big things:
1) you're cutting out a large portion of foods that maybe very healthy or convenient or tasty for people for no reason other than to fit a diet into a definition. if you want to try keto, great. if you want to avoid overly processed foods, even better. non-gmo? sure. but to limit them all because they're not Paleo isn't a smart idea. look at what happens with so many of the people trying to eat healthy and track macros: "oh the vegetables from the farmers market don't have a label so how should i track it?" we should be encouraging people to eat more variety of foods, not less. and Paleo is exclusionary.
2) the marketing
pretty much this. remember when everyone was parroting Pug all the time? new people are still parroting, it's just they're parroting more and different people.

Yeah, like I said, I'm not a fan of cutting things out just to mimic what people in the Stone Age supposedly did. It's stupid, there's no two ways about it. But the end result, which is eating a diet built on meat, fish, fruits and vegetables is in my opinion not stupid at all. Even though I eat grains and dairy, I don't think they're necessary at all, and I could be just as healthy by not eating them. I don't think anything too important is cut out in the paleo diet. But I do agree that you're cutting out tasty foods for no good reason. Which is wrong, but the diet itself is still sensible. So what I'm saying is that trying to go paleo doesn't make sense, but eating like that does, if you get what I mean.
Can you elaborate on 2), though? I have really never seen much talk about this, and it always seemed to me people complain about it more than they're pushing it.

Pug was an interesting character. lots of information, just sort of peculiar in the way he presented it. a lot of the new guys really got behind him (probably for the reps?). big fan of keto.
Getting a little feisty up in here.
yeah so these two points kind of go hand in hand. whether or not something is "Paleo" shouldn't be the reason you eat or don't eat it. at the core of it; there's an idea that you eat less processed foods, which immediately cuts out most of the junk food that paleo limits. the problem is that the way Paleo is pushed cuts out a lot perfectly reasonable foods (beans is a great example).
so eating sensibly and avoiding junk food is a great idea, but there's no good word or phrase to promote that (warrior diet, mediteranean diet, atkins, paleo, vegan, etc).
the problem with Paleo and marketing is that people go from the kernel of a good idea of paleo (eat less junk food) and find ways to eat more junk food. look at this list when you go to google shopping and type in "Paleo Approved" https://www.google.com/search?q=pale...aleo+approved+
so if you're going to go buy bagged junk food, bread, protein powder, mayonnaise, vinaigrette, and beef jerky, but avoid milk, beans, lots of fruit and some vegetables, but say you're Paleo and trying to eat healthy, i have a big problem with that.
