Why do I need more than 50g of protein per day?

Considering that I'm doing a push pull lower routine working out every other day, thus each muscle group is being worked out every six days. Isn't 50g of protein for six days straight while resting enough to fully repair any given muscle group for the next workout? If I were working out the same muscle twice or even three time per week I could understand why I'd need more protein.

because 50g of protein is only 200 calories?

if you eat 2-3000 the whole day and the rest is fat and carbs you'll look like a pile of chit?

Your body only uses a little bit of the protein it gets to build muscle. It needs the protein for a variety of other functions. If you eat only 50g a day, you're basically giving your body no protein to build muscle with.

Also, Push/push/legs every other day is not optimal. Working your muscles once every 6 days, you might as well be doing an inefficient routine like a bro split.

If you don't care about muscle and strength gain and optimizing your workouts then no you don't need over 50g of protein. However, at your weight that's probably right around the bare minimum.

I am making gains on my PPL routine, and I work out intensively each time with about 25 sets per workout. I'm just tired of eating so much protein.

You can do what you want, just depends on your goals. And what you want to get from your efforts. And 50gms of protein is pretty far from "so much", its basically the protein in a petite steak one might have for breakfast in their steak and eggs plate.

Tired of eating 50g of protein? 50g of protein is less than half the protein you should eat on a daily basis and you are calling that much? Unless you mean you are eating 50g of pure protein powdere i'd suggest having a closer look at your numbers, if you are tracking them, and correct them^^

I think two of the biggest problems and frustrations with explaining DCA/IIFYM to people is explaining that:

    1) food, real food, consists of more than 1 macro nutrient.

    2) you should be eating real food! i see a lot of posts like this where people think they need to limit their food choices to meet their goals. the whole point is to provide flexibility.

Did he leave off a zero or something? It would be hard to not get 50g without even trying unless you're vegan.

If I only needed 50g of protein in a day, I'd just drink one of these and eat my other 2750 calories in fruit, rice, pasta, donuts and pop tarts.

    Nothing beats real world experience.

Give 50 gram of protein a day a try and see how it works.

How about 100g of protein daily, is that enough for my routine? I mean does anyone here have experience taking 100g daily while not cutting?

Sack up. All you're doing is losing the muscle mass you've worked hard for.

And yeah, plenty 115lbs females cut on 100g a day.

Can you post examples of what you eat in a day?

At 184lbs you should be taking in (184/2.2)*1.8 = 151g of protein per day MINIMUM in order to achieve optimal results. Less protein = less results, you decide.

Dude, I trip and fall into 50g of Protein each morning. Im at 250g per day, which is a lot, but I manage to do it, there is absolutely no reason you cant get at least 100, or as bluesteel said, 150g a day. 8oz of chicken is 56g for petes sake.

    184 * .84 = 155?

Or does the nutrition section use new numbers

    edit: 184 * .82 = 151
