There are far more similarities between the two loan programs than differences. Both programs did a lot of good for the country, both were riddled with abuse.

You want to make judgement calls based on your feelings about politics and who benefits, but that has nothing to do with the basic idea of a loan, and the terms and conditions of paying it back.

these were given out pretty much as stimmy checks (grants) where they only turned into loans if you misused the money not outlined in the grants fine print. Even if it was money taken out as a loan with the intention of paying back, if they decided later to forgive it, you would be stupid not to apply for it to be forgiven.

The real question is, did these people vote for a bill to forgive the "loan".

if i'm a republican with an outstanding student loan that i'm paying, and i'm against any laws to forgive loans. IF the bill passes forgiving my loan without me actively advocating or voting for it, should I turn down the forgiveness and ask to keep paying it?

If they are business owners and were affected by the lockdowns why would they exclude themselves. I’ll admit I dont know if said republicans are business owners or not but if so then it’s ridiculous to compare the two.
And if students don’t want such large debt perhaps instead of taking handouts which will do nothing but increase the cost of future tuition they should instead tell the government to get out of loans for colleges all together. As soon as the government started guaranteeing loans the price of college skyrocketed.

Business owners could also be responsible and maintain reserves to weather downturns without taking handouts. BTW, those handouts also contributed to skyrocketing inflation.

If the Government is going to force businesses to close and one's ability to provide income for themselves, than the government is responsinle for their actions and the aftermath of them.

No one forced people to attend college than took away their ability to financial gain to pay for said college.
