Laptop gaming is still the best thing.
Although I have played Atari, Sega, Gameboy, all Nintendo/Playstation/Xbox consoles and handhelds.
But nothing beats PC/Laptop gaming. Especially that I like strategy games....(if I play them on smartphones it's not fun at all). But even if I was to count all genres, Laptop experience is way better.

Are you one of those gamers who would still prefer PC gaming over anything else?

Eh I've been on a desktop for 10 years and I won't go back. I remember gaming on my college laptop it would get so hot. I wouldn't play a strategy or sim game with a controller, and I also prefer M+K for games like Ark, Minecraft, 7 Days to Die, et cetera. The only things I still use a controller for nowadays are sports games, party games, racing games, and some FPS games (I need to break that habit though lol).

PC gaming is kinda for geeks, srs. There's nothing wrong with it really. I had the best gaming times of my life playing FPS and Adventure gmes on PC back in the day. But times have changed. 90% of people that play games dont even know they still come out on PC.
Plus you can't exactly have friends over and huddle around a monitor to game. Or just whip out the pc games with a bunch of people around during a party.

Gotta agree with the OP. I got a nice Falcon Northwest laptop back in 2019, and it's been fantastic for PC gaming. 120hz monitor, I can play just about anything at a smooth high FPS, and it's just a nice and relatively compact computer setup that doesn't take up a ton of room, double as a space heater, or suck down a ton of power. Best of all if I am taking off somewhere for a while, I can just easily pack it up and I'll have a nice gaming PC anywhere I go. Combine that with a Steam Deck, and it's like I only need a Series X for some easy TV gaming.
