The Ascent Had Record Sales Success Despite Launching On Game Pass

Publisher Curve has announced that The Ascent earned more than $5 million in sales on its opening weekend. Developed by the Swedish indie studio Neon Giant, The Ascent launched on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with the game also being available as part of the Game Pass subscription service on PC, console, and cloud.

Curve added that The Ascent rose to the top of Steam's global charts, while coverage of the game on YouTube and Twitch generated more than 10 million views.

Success is obviously showing when Game Pass is becoming a catalyst of what games are worth buying.

The Ascent is a great game and an amazing genre.

It surprises me that people are actually buying the game rather than paying for Game Pass though.

Have some buds that refuse to get it and are playing ascent with us currently. Boggles my mind. They could just get one month of gamepass for cheaper than they are paying. Not like they will revisit the game in the future.

Tried to get it going with a few buds on gamepass but have had nothing but issues launching multiplayer. We're gonna give it a month and try again, because the game seems awesome.

If you have GamePass you can buy the game at a discount. So when the game is about to leave, it sometimes asks if you want to buy it at a discounted rated. Some people do it, but I myself have only bought a few games that I've liked. Additionally they get cuts from GamePass too, so it's not all that bad. What this does prove though is that for some small indie developers, GamePass could start to be a viable and lucrative platform to launch a game to the masses as opposed to just the people who buy it. You no doubt get tons of people just trying the game out, as opposed to them never buying it at all.

That's what I hate about subscription services, games get taken off at the drop of a hat. Some with PSNow and Netflix etc.

About 3-4 hours in on the Series X and have not experienced any bugs.

The auto-save has been super generous, I don't think I've ever manually saved.
It's not the type of game where you have to make decisions and save-scum.

I haven't had any save bugs.

The only bugs I've run into is cosmetics disappearing from the game when you close it and relaunch it. Granted I don't really care about cosmetics, but it is kind of annoying.

The first time I fought this guy I got a bugged double spawn with other adds. Talk about frustrating. The second time around he was a solo boss fight and I didn't have any issues.

I banged my head on the wall for a long ass time with the mech spider though.

Graphics very really nice though

There's a few more boss fights but the end of the game is something else. Keep pushing brah,

I never even used the map. Think I turned it on once or twice, saw how bad it was, then never turned it on again. I just walked around until I found chit.
