The Last of Us 2 Sets a Record With 13 BAFTA Game Awards Nominations
After numerous accolades, The Last of Us Part II has now received a record number of nominations for this year's BAFTA Games Awards.

The title has actually risen to become the most awarded video game in the medium's history, surpassing CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 which previously held the title after its release in 2015. This tally of achievements, including both media outlet awards and reader's choice awards, was sitting at 261 at the beginning of this year. The Last of Us Part 2 notably sweep The Game Awards 2020, winning seven of the event's awards including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game.

TLOU2 is a 9/10 game with a story that drew me in harder than almost any game ever has, yeah it had it's plot issues and other flaws but it's still one of the best games of this generation.

From what I can gather, the lead guy who looks like Rafi from The League is a narcissistic edgelord who follows the D&D and Rian Johnson schools of "subverting expectations," while key people moved on from Naughty Dog.

But yeah, I don't really see the point in unceremoniously killing off the jelly, um... chocolate to Ellie's peanut butter because once you remover their relationship... what really is the point, again?

I'm not personally invested in the characters or series, but I can at least empathize with the whole father and surrogate daughter journey. Otherwise, the only remotely interesting thing about the whole deal is the slightly different interpretation of mushroom zombies, however even that side to the game brimming with potential is relegated to the far, far sidelines past the water boy and into the bloody parking lot. Take away that character dynamic, and it's all just another instance of the "humans are the real monsters!" trope.

So, is the show going to be zambies GOT where they Ned Stark the presumed lead to refocus on Senator Armstrong's budding relationship with someone who has time to worry about gender identity in the apocalypse?

The games are already more than cinematic enough to raise the question of why bothering to do a show following the same characters and story beats (even if it's just parts in between, which could have just been more TLOU games), with the added positive that even if you don't give a toss about any of that, you still have a third person game to kill shroom zeds and randos.

Hollywood's taking anything at this point, though; there's already a Monster Hunter movie and there will be Borderlands movie with Kevin Hart as fukking Roland for god's sake, so I'm more interested in what the next game they're going to halfass into a movie/show next. Probably The Thing, but it's Among Us, although I'd genuinely like to see Fall Guys usher in a return to MXC.

There is a girl (like.. a 12 year old or some chit) in the game, who shaves her head and acts like a boy. She's from a village with crazy fanatical people who cut their own faces called "Scars". They were going to kill the girl for shaving her head. The girl has nothing to do with Joe. She never meets him.

That's literally the whole story and it barely has anything to do with the game. It's such a minor side plot.

There was nothing really subversive about killing Joel though. It was the obvious choice for a big sequel. You say you're not invested with the series, which is fine, but I question if you've even played the first one.

Yes, there is a father/daughter relationship. But "Humans are the real monsters" is literally the whole first game as well. What makes the first game one of the GOAT games is the ending solidifies it and goes one step further. Not only are humans the real monsters, but the character you are playing is a god damned monster too.

And the monster gets his ****ing comeuppance in the second game. It's a fitting end to one of the GOAT characters. There's no way that guy should get a "Happy" ending. Bitter sweet was the way to go, and that's what he got. He saved his surrogate daughter and regained his humanity, and in the end he was more or less forgiven for his sins from the only person who mattered.


We didn't need a second game with the same Father/Daughter theme. Would be no point to make a sequel if they were just gonna rehash that. That's not to say everyone has to like the second games' story. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing. But Joel isn't Nathan Drake, and TLOU is not ****ing uncharted. Him getting off without facing the repercussions of the chit he did in the first game would have been a thematic disservice to the first game.


And as I said above, "Gender identity" has hardly anything to do with the whole game. It's literally a female side character who dresses and shaves her head like a boy, and never once is there any mention of what gender they are attracted to, cause they are a kid.

I've been bored out of my mind lately and forgot to pick up this game a few days ago. I just keep hearing complete chit about it like how the gameplay is repetitive, how it's boring, etc.

The biggest tell is that the game is now $30 instead of $60.. and that happened pretty quickly. Just not sure what to believe.
