    well fred hatfield held the side uprights of the rack when he squatted so I figured one hand on my leg for balance would be acceptable. Hopping to get that 270 straight clean though. I guess I am re evaluating my 270 goal to 305, I think at this point that is attainable

    Ya yrs ago I saw him squat about 850, non competition. It was pretty cool to watch, soon after that he broke the 1000lb mark (that I would have loved to see)
    In anycase he used to hold the side uprights while squatting heavy during training sessions and this led him to developing the hatfield squat this is essentially a safety bar squat where you place your hands on a bar in front of you, this allows you to get an overload from heavier weight than you could normally. He Also developed the Hatfield safety squat bar. Just a little history lol

    Hell yeah, so you ever hear of Joe Kinney? He did those safety squats using his arms for support and did 440x60, HUGE controversy because this was back before Internet chit.

    Some dumb fuk recorded himself squatting to a bench 405 x 21 to prove Joe didn't do it, I'm like WTF, the dumb fuk had 10 more reps in him and it was his first go. Joe said he did these all the time, plus the @sshole did regular squats not arm assisted. Man these young fuks are stupid as hell today
