I doubt it works like this. Authoritarian pressures exist for independent reasons and naturally grow into a system like the ccp. Social credit analysis naturally guides a lot of decision-making anywhere, and people like finding ways to improve it.

Dictatorship is getting to be a pretty easy package to sell since the average citizen moving around in their day-to-day life is far more likely to be killed in a road accident than find themselves in a situation where they are removed for being a dissident to the authorities.

average people tolerate huge hypocrisy in the way they view responsibility for themselves vs the way they view responsibility for authorities.

hypothetically, if pandemic turns out to be accurate, ave ppl will happily blame those who dont believe it for not believing it rather than the terrible track record of government for eroding confidence in ppl by not telling the truth when it comes to most critical issues like killing ppl, $trillions, fear mongering etc
