My mom is shopping for a new 4k tv, picking between a Sony HDR LED and a LG OLED. Both 55 inches.
Worth the extra 700 smackaroos?

i think so.
but it kinda depends. how is she using it? if she leaves it on all the time, i'd say no. or if you're talking about gaming (presumably not).. i'd prob say no. you might not having problems with oled but i don't and didn't even want to take a chance. im fairly wary about how long i keep logos on or the black bars on dvd's. even though i've had 0 issues i keep the screen saver thing on at the shortest amount of time possible.
if she's in a bright room and wants brightness.. i'd say no.
but oled colors are way better and richer
i don't think i'll veer away from oled for a while

Oleds are for enthusiasts or super rich people who could afford to buy another one tbh ... There is a risk of burn if you watch a lot of things with static logos/content (like the news) ... But the burn in risks are reduced greatly on the newer models.
Also depends on how bright your room is ... In a super bright room, the oled can struggle a bit, but its not so bad, but the picture quality in a dark room is top tier and nothing comes close. If you say she only watches netflix then thats not an issue imo, but how bright is the room?
I got an oled and I cant see myself getting any other tv now on apart from oled models. They mog all the other tvs. So yeah, depends on your mileage and how you plan to use it.Sig line can't be a novel

Yea it's actually for my grandma to watch tv shows when she comes and stays for a while. My mom mostly uses her phone to watch shows
Looking at this one: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...E&gclsrc=aw.ds
There won't be direct sunlight... also do you recommend a sound bar?

i have 1 lg 4k that isn't oled, lcd. it's decent. this was fairly early for 4k
i have a tcl 6 series
and an lg oled
i haven't looked at the latest models but the tcl 6 series was awesome for budget/performance. i believe they have newer series out. not quite sure what the performance is like (may be better) but honestly i'd have 0 problem recommending the 6 series for what you're stating.
you could even go bigger if you wanted
also, make sure to upgrade netflix to ultra hd too. you won't be getting 4k otherwise. and cable is usually only 720p
soundbars can prob get the job done but a 2.1 system or decent bookshelfs will prob sound better. but that requires getting a receiver too
also something to keep in mind as well for dvd's you need a 4k dvd player
dvd/ discs picture and sound is wayyy better than streaming

The CX is a great tv, I'm using the C9.
Yeah soundbars are pretty chill imo .... I mean sure, nothing wont compare to having a receiver and your own proper 5.1 7.1 channel system for the best kind of audio quality ... But I'm using the LG SK9Y soundbar due to convenience / space issues and the thing sounds amazing imo. You can google the best soundbars and have your pick depending on the budget and quality.
If you can get proper sound channels then yeah, go crazy and fix speakers all over the room lol, but otherwise a soundbar is fine.Sig line can't be a novel

for a mom and grandma, in the kitchen, no get regular LED. You can get a really good one for even like 800-1000 these days. Hell they would probably be impressed with a $500 one.
They likely wont even care much about deeper blacks and all that chit but they will def notice if it gets screen burn in.
Also when picking out stuff for my mom, I try to also pay more attention to things like which is easiest to use, which has the better remotes ect. She isnt that technically inclined so i focus on that.

Lol, the sony led was significantly cheaper but next to the lg cx, the lg had more vibrant colors even in the bright store. Got the 5 year warranty from costco.
2000 bucks cad for 55 inch lg hdr oled. The motion or response rate is 120 hrtz, which means I can hook it up to the pc too.
Sound quality is amazing, was using a decade old rca tv before, huge upgrade

I've been looking for a new TV as well, and OLED Seems like the most logical choice for a TV. It's really between an OLED and a QLED. From what I've read it's OLED which is a true LED self lit TV, whereas QLED is actually just an LCD upgraded a bunch. OLED is the better overall screen, but QLED is better in for brightness.
I'm looking to drop around $1,500 for a next gen TV for the Series X and was stuck between an OLED and a QLED. QLED is cheaper, but I don't want to have an below grade TV. Then I like the OLED, but I'm afraid of burn in with video games. Anyone have any buy-in or ideas about which is better for next gen gaming? My room is a little darker because I painted the walls a matte navy and I have legit blinds so it seems OLED would work, but I'm just really afraid I'm going to drop money on an OLED and then suffer burn-in from video games.*Mechanical Engineering Crew*

Legit lmao, convinced my dad to get himself an oled and h himself was so impressed by the video quality and stuff, and he's someone that doesnt really care about technology. Was jelly as fuk for the longest time before I bought my own oled.Sig line can't be a novel

i saw reviews of someone who SWORE they only watched movies. but of course you can't really trust people
but they showed their tv with the black bars from dvds burned into their screen
again, people are retards. maybe something else happened, but it always scared me
and there's a dude on youtube who was really all about it and his kids used it and got burn in. i think it was this one:

This one is still staying downstairs, and I still got 14 days of good usage before my grandma comes.
Lmao I don't even remember the last time my dad watched tv, he's either on his phone or pc or singing karaoke after work
Dam, that looks like a new LG model too. Thankfully I got the energy saving mode on max, screen turns off after like 5 mins.

I wouldn’t consider anything but an OLED , but in your moms case she’d probably be happy with an led backlit screen or q led. The leds have come a long way imo , and don’t get burn in , but don’t have the viewing angle OLEDs provide either .
I’m pretty fussy though , and prefer perfect motion and contrast. I just have to limit how much I watch cnn , as the red can get burnt in quite easily. Actually seen an OLED returned in two months from burn in.
It’s extremely fake news anyways , so it’s not a problem in my caseMake Misc great again
