Mushroom Man

Likely most miscers have encountered the Paul Stamets, aka the mushroom man before.

A new video of him was in my YT que this morning that is packed with info if you have an interest.



He talks fast-

- extract that acts as an anti-viral for bees

- lower cancer rates correlated with increased consumption of shiitake mushrooms

- benefits being studied re: psychedelic mushrooms, e.g. reduced domestic violence in men, reset for treatment resistant depression

- Lion's Mane as a treatment for stabilizing dementia; removing amyloid plaques

Anecdotally I've been using Host Defense Lion's Mane powder for at least 6 weeks. I feel better. Could be placebo I guess; likely not harmful.

I have all my lab equipment ready to go and made a bad ass still air box.

I’m setting up today, deep cleaning tonight and then inoculating.

It is my first grow.

I have a “Martha” greenhouse in a closet with complete environment sensing and controlling, my HVAC is sterilized with UVC, I have additional UVC lamps and sterilization chambers and a hepa filter.

I got mason jars already sterilized through pressure cooking with the cakes. I’m nervous about contamination, but everyone I know who does it says I have one of the best set ups they’ve ever seen.

I’ll watch the video in a bit. You have my interest.

I think there is some truth to a lot of what he says, but he seems to take any studies that could possibly be interpreted as “might be beneficial” and running with it as confirmed and then exaggerates the results. Like I said though, I tend to lean towards believing there is more truth than not to a lot of his claims(when it comes to benefits of some strains, not talking about the stoned ape theory and stuff like that). I also think his heart is in the right place. Because of that I support his company and have ordered from them in the past and will almost certainly do so in the future.

Some of this I have heard in interviews with him before and some not. There was a slide near the end about Lion's Mane that he said was from a study just completed very recently.

Former horticulture student and I take an interest in growing things generally. Know someone that tried growing mushrooms and said it is hard to do- keeping everything sterile.

Yeah, when the part about the stoned ape hypothesis started I was like, um, really? Sometimes he seems to leap to conclusions. He did back off on that though and wrapped on the subject by saying he sees it as strongly possible vs. what actually happened.

IDK. Not my intent...more of a natural medicine thread. Says in the vid that there is some kind of process ongoing to have that rescheduled down to schedule 4 I think.
