Context does matter, but you are picking and choosing what context matters to you. As it stands, white people wearing dark makeup to appear black is the continuation of a practice tied to the mocking of black people, and often enslaved Africans, in the US. That’s the context for this. More context for this, which a lot of commenters seem to be ignoring: how the practice comes off to black Americans. If you are not a person of color (and I am not), it is not your place to say that something pertaining directly to people of color is not racist or hurtful. You are not the subject matter expert. Several organizations led by or advocating for people of color have publicly condemned the practice and have done so for years. You should be listening to them.

TWITCH, TWITTER etc all media leftist hellscapes, void of logic or reasoning. I don't see how anyone can stand what TWITCH has become, a prime example of human greed and vanity corrupting a concept that was humble.

I think that is a great post.
That being said, I'm guessing she really was ignorant of the history of racism in the west, and so can't empathize with why people find it offensive.
However, you bring up a great point, which drives me up wall IRL...
People not of a race, declaring that something 'shouldn't be' offensive to a race.
Saying that, I've had 2 friends who were white who didn't understand why certain things pissed me off so much. Until... 1 got a niece who was half black, and then when he would overhear people saying things in a pub, he would get pissed because he realized that they were talking about his niece. The 2nd went to a country in Asia, and experienced people treating him as if he was a potential criminal when walking down the street (something he never experienced in the west), along with subtle hostility and passive-aggression towards him that people of the majority ethnicity didn't seem to experience. They both told them that they "Understand now", whereas before they wouldn't understand why experiences like that can really piss people off.If You Don't Like To Talk About Your Feelings, This Might Help...

So the intent is irrelevant? Only how it's interpreted matters?? Because, that's an awful standard to live one's life by.
There is a word in the English language that means cheap. It's "n-i-g-g-a-r-d-l-y". It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with another, similar sounding word. The problem is that you have to be well read to know that much older English word. In Washington DC, a democRAT aide to the democRAT mayor was giving a press conference and used that word. Something about budgets I think. Anyway, several black members of the press in that room, being unfamiliar with the word, automatically assumed it was racial. They got outraged over it. It became a controversy. Even though it was explained to them that the error was theirs and that it was simply a word they didn't understand, that wasn't enough. The aide had to be fired to satisfy the mob. When I heard about it, I laughed because democRATS eating their own is funny to me, but in all honesty, I was also a bit chilled. Here's was a very clear example of the slippery slope in action. There was no racial intent by the speaker. The racial connotation existed only in the minds of those black reporters who weren't familiar with the word. Why did the speaker have to lose his job? He had obviously not done anything wrong. That's why I reject the standard that says intent doesn't matter. In fact, intent is all that matters as far as I'm concerned. If somebody is offended by something not meant to be offensive, then they are the ones with the problem."Buy a man eat fish, the day, teach man, to lifetime." - Joe Biden

This all day every day. Intent is all that matters because that is the only thing that can be universally applied.
You can't decide whether something is offensive or racist by how some people feel or because some people got offended. This leads to the current state of there are some rules for us and rules for you and it isn't the actual situation that is racist but who is doing it.
You also can't hold the rest of the world to the standards in the U.S. since you know, you're only 1 country with your own unique history. So if some random white people from some remote Russian village that have been pretty much isolated from the rest of the world visit a city and see a black character they like and try to dress up exactly like them then they are now racist because of some **** that Americans do?
She also looks just like every bodybuilder at a competition, are they all in blackface? since intent doesn't matter if some random black guy gets offended thinking their in black face does that make all of them racist now? or anyone who gets a tan for that matter?Liverpool FC. YNWA.

I don't think he was taking it to the extreme you are talking about.
I think he's just talking about intention doesn't necessarily equal impact, however on the flip side (like you point out) impact doesn't necessarily equal impact.
There are white people who argue that they want to be able to use the N word freely, arguing that their intention isn't bad, so it should be OK... That is the kind of thing I think he is talking about. If You Don't Like To Talk About Your Feelings, This Might Help...

Why are American cultural standards being held as a universal absolute? Someone from Lithuania should know or give af about "blackface"?
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.
The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."
The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

Our words and behaviour have an impact on other people, most people would not want to unnecessarily hurt other people's feelings.
Do you go around using racial slurs in public, if you don't care?
Do you say the first thing that pops into your mind when around people, without filtering?
If people are in a vulnerable emotional state and are confiding in you, are you not careful about your choice of words? If You Don't Like To Talk About Your Feelings, This Might Help...

Life’s too short and you’re not going to save them all or even half
Even right now as I type this message there are several hundred people dying at this very second....people starving....people clinging on to barely get by.......well darnnnn that sucks
Only thing you can do is focus on living life and getting the most joy and happiness out of it as you can
Letting people who have shyti lives dictate things over you that have nothing to do with bad or wrong can go fuk off
Listening to these freaks and the minority in their niche weird purposely indoctrinated way of thinking or they were unfortunate to be brought up like that is bullshyt
That’s one of the best things about the weirdos and the normal...normal people go about life enjoying all the awesome things there are and aren’t looking at everything with worry if it offends they just do...eat, drink, laugh and are happyHave goodnight.

Lol then you have no idea how their brains work. To an offended person, it has nothing to do with the level of indignation experienced. It's about whether or not you can use what the person said or did against them. Being able to get the state or some corporations to react and do what you want just by complaining is just a flex for these people. They enjoy being in a protected class of people and essentially being high status members of society.
Why do you think all these losers try to pretend they are the opposite sex? Because it let's them punish people who state the obvious: you still look like a dude. And that gives them a feeling of power they've never had and never would get otherwise.Last edited by yewotm8; 04-17-2019 at 05:32 AM.
