Working around a muscle tear & speeding up healing?

I haven't worked out much for the last month, but have been noticing, for at least a month or two now, that when I:

extend my left arm out horizontally,
move it back all the way
    and then move it up

I get a pain in that left front shoulder muscle. Not sure what it's called.

Is that a muscle tear or what?

And how do I work out around it? How long will it take to heal and what can I do to speed it up? Thanks.

Go see a doctor and/or physical therapist, then go from there.

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

Get seen by an Orthopedic Surgeon or Physical Therapist and get it looked at; Orthopedic Urgent Care would be a good choice (you'll be seen by the right kind of people). It could be a number of things and they will perform a number of test to narrow it down. Then you can talk about treatment and training options
