Ok quick meet update:
Weighed in at 194.6
Squats: 400/430/450
Bench: 275/290/295
Deads: 500/530/540 fail
8/9 with 1275 total, 65lb addition to last years total.
Was gunning for the state record in squats at 425. Took that my second attempt with 430 and it felt super light. Went to 450. It moved very well and had more in the tank. 40lb PR
Bench went well, 15lb meet PR with 295 and again had a bit more in the tank.
Deads were ok, my second at 530 went slow but was a 10lb meet PR. Put 540 on next but no go.
Great time, great meet, great friends!!

Shawn you're a beast! 40lb PR and a state record on squats... damn! Congrats on PRing in everything, squats and bench looked like you had 135 on the openers with how quick they flew up lol.
Current PRs:
Bench Press: 200x1
Deads: 315x1
Back Squats: 275x1

Just awesome to see all the lifts ... to reiterate: 450 just flew up .... too easy. Very easy 295 bench as well ... certainly had 300+. Thought you might have been a bit fatigued for the deads ... 540 so strong off the floor but looked like your back was taking the load. Great meet Shawn!
And those iridescent green plates are soooo cool! 50kgs?
I want them for my home gym but I am not worthy ......"Better to wear out than rust out!"
Squat 165kg/363lbs
Deadlift 190kg/418lbs

Thanks Andrew! What a great day. I had no idea squats were going to feel so good. The 450 surprised me to be honest and happy there was more in me! Bench was solid too, my 290 on my second began to slow so I didn’t want to fail at 300. John gave me one cue on that last lift and it just clicked, 295 moved faster and felt lighter than 290.
Very pleased with the meet!☻/

I was happy with way things played out. Yes, I may have had more, but I honestly didn't know that after my seconds. Finishing strong on my thirds knowing I had a bit more is a good feeling and makes my goals even greater next year!! Thanks again for all you do buddy, my meet went soooo much better having you there in my my corner! You spoiled me now haha, if you weren't there I would probably fall apart!
lol, well it wasn't from lack of delicious food!!
Thanks Hammy! Had a really good meet and tons of fun! Gravity was light on squats…..it got turned up a few notches on deads lol
Thanks Andrew, I really didn't know my limits on squats but happy I hit 450 which was the goal in my mind. My final bench went better than my second so that was great, John gave me a cue that really seemed to help for that one! The deads played out the same as last year, think with my forward lean on squats my PC tires out by the time I hit my pulls. But, it's a 10lb meet PR so no complaints!
Thanks Ron, definitely did much better than last year, revenged all my misses and mistakes!
Thanks Grouchy! I was surprised how squats went actually, all of them just felt excellent! John did a bang up job on the wraps too, he even dummied his finger wrapping me lol. Lots of fun was had!☻/

Ok guys, for the first time in years, I am stopping journalling for the summer. I am going to be dieting and still training, but want to spend less internet time and more family time over the summer. I will throw the odd post on IG but my personal journal on IS and here are taking a break!
I’ll start back up in September when I begin the journey to squat 500 next April
Thanks for all the support, I'll still be around in everyone’s journals….I do work nightshifts lol.Last edited by raynerd; 04-30-2018 at 12:55 PM.

Shawn, just had to stop in and say great job on the meet! Excellent numbers and congrats on all of the PR's! I hear you on getting off the internet. Nothing wrong with that. It takes up valuable time. I'm sure you'll be down to my weight by the end of this weekend.

Thanks Ron, ya logging has been good just need a break. Maybe it’s that whole post meet mentality when you spend so much time building it up, then it’s over....and u are left with a weird feeling of what to do now haha.
500 is definitely in my sites, think I left about 20lbs on the platform...that would be 470...30 more pounds wouldn’t be unheard of for a whole year training so we will see..☻/

Thanks Trent! Appreciate the support buddy. Ya less screen time is a good thing for me, having 4 young active boys growing up around me so fast is making me realize I should stop and enjoy them more. In a blink they will be teenagers and I don’t want to miss it.
I’ll fire this back up in September. Ya diet is in full swing, been stalled at 190-191 the last few days but I should bust into the 180’s early next week☻/

Thanks Andrew, just a break from logging my own stuff, I’ll be watching and posting here.
So I will diet down into the 170’s again for summer, get lean, vascular and bring back dem abs so I am the leanest old dood at the lake this summer At least down to 175 I would think.
I started a 3x a week Barbell Medicine hypertrophy template this werk which will run 7 weeks. Still has the competition lifts but RPE no greater than 8’s and lots of sets in the 6-8 rep ranges. I am also only doing highbar squats for this. After that I have some specific stuff I want to work on.
1: quad strength, stronger quads will help my squat big time
2: improving my deadlift starting position; if I can somehow figure out a better, flatter upper back position, this will translate to a better lockout for me. It will be tough as I have pulled with a rounded upper back forever, but even a small improvement should go a long way.
As for the 198 class, yes absolutely I will stay in this class. I have no interest in going above this, I don’t like carrying too much fat and training in the 190’s has proven to be an ideal weight range for strength gains for me. I will begin to eat up to around 190 starting in September when i begin my strength climb for next years meet.
Programming from here on will all be RPE based☻/

so anyway, I'm well late to your thread, I see that you have stopped logging your own stuff, but just had to say a big congrats on the meet, your last squat and bench seemed to go up pretty well, pity about the 540.
Still hitting the gym twice a week myself, not nearly the same intensity as before but enough to stave off an attack of the weaks. Seem to have buggered my back though, twice this year Ive been out after a clicking in my back during deads. Totally form related I suspect but Im not chasing big numbers these days.
Take care Shawn, great stuff achieved since I last stopped in
