I'm trying to build up muscle and I'm wondering is it necessary to have a day dedicated to arms?
Would it be better to train chest and triceps on day and back and biceps another, or just straight chest, back another day, and arms a separate day?

I would just focus on your compound lifts. I know quite a few people who don't do a day dedicated to just arms.

I guess it depends what you are training for. I would concentrate on the basic compound lifts as others have already suggested. Push and pull hard, heavy and correct and your arms will progress and take care of themselves.
I personally have an arm day that's just the way it works for me but when I first started lifting I made the mistake of wasting my time with pointless arm exercises.

Just don't skip your tibialis anterior day, that's even more important.
We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.

Stupid comparison. If you're doing your push/pull exercises properly then your arms will be hit hard. If your first exercise is heavy bench press, what are you going to do to work your triceps more than that bench press just did? 20kg rope pull downs?
It's simple. If you enjoy training your arms, then do an arm day. If you don't, don't.tattoos - http://facepolution.deviantart.com/

I heard from a legit source the best way to grow arms is to do an 8 hour arm workout while consuming 16 protein shakes.
