Help me choose between these two brahs. It's my first luxury Swiss watch, fiance is buying it for me. I went to a couple of places yesterday and narrowed it down to an Omega Speedmaster Racing Edition or a Tudor Black Bay Steel. I realise this Omega is pretty much the cheapest Speedmaster but any others are beyond the budget.

What makes the 58 better than the one I posted? The steel one is actually more expensive here.

BB can be had with more color and a little more "pop." See below. Like the one on a leather strap with the brass-ish/gold-ish colored accents.

I'm leaning towards that one. I like that it's more understated than the other black bays. I don't think I'd make use of the chronometers nor the tachymeter on the Omega.

I've never really gotten the speedy thing, but the one you chose is probably the ugliest of all of them. I agree with the BB58 suggestion. They aren't easy to get, but they are slimmer and more sleek than the other ones.

You can't understate a tudor anymore than they already are because no one knows what they fuking are outside of the watch community.

I do like some speedmasters but do agree that the three dial register is pretty ugly. in fact, this is why i don't care for the daytona in most configurations. I just think 3 registers in a dial is an eyesore. 2 looks sweet though

Also, Grand Seiko needs a rebrand in the worst way. There's quite a few hi-beat models i've been interested in but just can't bring myself to spend over 5k with something that has seiko on the dial. if they could be had for the price of an aqua terra i'd be all over them like a fly on chit tho

They used to say SEIKO in big letters with Grand Seiko as a secondary name, but not too long ago they officially changed it to the main GS logo and Grand Seiko branding.

I believe historically Credor was the high-end quartz line (back when quartz was more desirable) that was meant to serve as avant garde art/jewelry rather than time pieces while GS primarily served as greatly refined mechanical tools first and foremost. Credor pieces also utilized precious metals along with gemstones while GS mainly remained steel/Ti/Pt/gold etc...

Obviously things are wildly different now, especially with Spring Drive (quartz) being the main driver of both GS and Credor. If it were up to me I think I would re-brand the GS dress watches as Credor and keep the divers as GS. I think what is preventing that is the historical design differences between the two branches.

Excuse the messy background, crashing at my girls place for the weekend and it's laundry day. I woke up this morning .still pissed off that the SA at the jeweler i've been in all this time tried to clown me. So I went to a much more robust dealer that sells Grand Seiko, Tudor, AP, Glashutte, Zenith, etc.

Did the song and dance of pretending to try on multiple stuff but ultimately knew what i wanted and asked what the best price was on the Tudor Bronze. She also said they don't really discount but followed that up by asking "what were you looking to pay?" I said "between 3500 and 3700". She came back with 3600 + tax... Sold.


Crazy part is once you added the tax it was still pretty high, but it's the principle of it to me. The last place I was regularly showing my face in, getting jewelery worked on for my girl, I'm clearly not a flipper and you charging me sticker price for a Tudor you have TWO of on display? Go eat the biggest bag of dicks.



Side Notes:
- Grand Seiko dials really are fuking stunning in person.

- I saw very swaggy looking 60+ year old wearing Balenciaga sneakers and a european scarf picking up a Parmigiani. Mind was nuked, I know they're great watches but I didn't think people actually bought them because of the cheese-like name.

- There was absolute FUKall in the Audemars Piquet glass. Space for 50+ watches. They had MAYBE 5.

I love it. It feels and looks substantial. The sweeping snowflake seconds hand is a treat for the eyes. I also forgot that it was lumed throughout so thats an extra plus.

The thing i like most is that it's entirely my own preference. I was telling the new AD yesterday that I was fortunate that I wasn't a fan of any of the "hot models" ie. the BB GMT or the BB58. Neither AD I went to had those in stock, but between the two they had 3 of this exact model i'm wearing. Literally as I was telling him this, a younger guy came in wanting to try on the BB58.


Thing that blew my mind though was how many obvious flippers/fukbois these ADs have to deal with. I hear ArchieLuxury, Federico, etc talk about cringey people trying to flip but I never saw them in the wild. One guy walked into the first AD, hands in his pockets, dirty sneakers, hoodie up. Looked HELLA suspicious and was like "you have any steel professional rolex? can i avoid taxes if you ship to me over state lines?" I was like WOW. At the second AD, some cringey swaggy millennial in a pink hoodie, and yeezy runners came in looking for Royal Oaks and the AD hit him with the -_- look. I lol'd

The new sheen of the bronze (that I know patinas away), the thick clicking sound of the rotating bezel, the depth of the dial from the gradiant dial/applied indices, and the snowflake near the end of the running seconds hand is perfectly placed to align with the bottom of the hour markers as it passes them. Pure hnnng.

When I get a new watch I probably wear it for 6 months or more before I think about switching it up. Then when I swap it out with something else I have, I'll wear that for a month+ before switching to something else.

And that aged bronze patina is the best part.
