Vinko is a pretty knowledgeable guy and a regular at IH.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Here are the globes from when I picked them up last summer. The guy who sold them to me was the second owner but he remembered very well that the original owner said the complete set was bought in 1967. It looks like nothing has been done to them in terms of restoration since 1967 and I will likely leave them that way. No loose heads and all straight handles. The guy included a 3-tier, 7-ft DB rack with the deal. Between the nearly 300-lb rack (it is heavy duty) and DBs, the truck was riding pretty low with 1 ton on board.

Last summer definitely had some good hauls for me. Here I picked up a newer York set (bar, collars, and USA stamped plates) and some older roundheads (pre-USA stamp) from 10s-50s.

And here was another good pick up. A friend of mine said he got a call from someone looking to sell off old equipment from the gym his dad used to own. The guy said he had York plates and that the gym closed in the 80s so I figured there might be some treasures. I live in rural northern MN and the guy was about a 20-minute drive away - what are the odds?

I dug through a huge trailer of equipment (literally tons of equipment just thrown/crammed in there) and found some nice plates and collars including six milled 5s and four milled 10s. With that many small milled plates, I was really hoping for a milled 2.5 but it was not meant to be. Ironically, it was only a few weeks before that I [knowingly] paid way too much for milled 5s and 10s on eBay thinking that I would never come across them on my own. Lesson learned.

very nice setup kratos! Wish I could completely empty my garage and take it over entirely. Some day I'll build a big shed and a gate to get to it for all the rest of the stuff!

Is that some sort of shipping pallet or did you make that specifically for vehicle pickups?

I guess my next pickups I need to bring a few loading pins with me. Sure beats having the plates slide and crash around every time you gas or brake.

You can use 2 inch OD PVC. I used it for a time to stack plates around the garage.

No, it is just a 4x8 sheet of plywood with some metal pipes (bought at Home Depot) and a couple of sleeves off old crappy bars (not York bars, of course). The pipes are not attached to the plywood; I just drop them in after the plates are stacked and nothing ever moves.

That's always the case. Once you find one pair, along comes a second. It's happened with 100s, 95s, Kg plates, etc.

Very mysterious. The plate is yellow and appears to be marked "15 KG."

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Sweet, sweet collection and rack. And, BTW, I hope Gene sees your pics. Gene, that's how to photograph, with good lighting, good composing, and proper use of depth-of-field.

Interesting similarity, though I had assumed the calibrated plates had the pockets for lead to make sure the plates were at the right weight for the location, altitude, whatever.

ETA: Ivanko has a deep respect and appreciation for those who preceded them. No dig at the York of old, and Vinko has said some good things about the current company. I don't think it's in the company's culture to slam others in the business.

Since the York plates are credited as an "early" grip plate, I see it as a tribute rather than a marketing dig. A lot of companies would just ignore the contributions of other companies to the industry and say they were the 1st.

I just found a local ad for York Globe Dumbbels. 50 to 100, missing 95s. Seller wants $2k. As much as I'd love the set, that's just too high!

It's too bad the guy doesn't know what he has, lol.
