Transparency, quality are key in the midst of protein spiking

    http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/...y-transparency

Interesting article explaining that sports nutrition companies are using actual verification of quality rather than the "this will give you big muscles" advertising that was used in the past. Just thought I would share!

That is nice, and it is changing some.
But you need to remember protein actually does build muscle.

For your average guy, Usually they don't take in enough protein.
When they take a protein supp 2-3 times per day and lift, they do tend to gain muscle moreso if otherwise weren't supplementing with it.
Is this what freedom feels like?

That is very true! I guess I meant to say that the muscle-building claims aren't as exaggerated and blown out of proportion as they previously were, but I do agree.

He meant protein is the building blocks of muscle, which I hope you aren't arguing. Not protein=massive increased muscles gains

I can argue that fats and carbs are also building block for muscle metabolism.

Really this your argument!! Skeletal muscle are made of protein fibers.....eating protein does not increase increase protein synthesis in the skeletal muscle. protein is a nutrient for muscle repair after working out....chicken, beef, and eggs do the same. Simply eating protein does not build muscle. Please dont be one of them....this is pretty depressing

    You are misinterpreting.

The concept is with someone who lifts. Not someone who sits around all the time.

I understand....nutrients in general including all macros are needed for lifters to build muscle. Fats happen to be one of them.

Saying protein builds muscle is simply a false statement.

Yep, protein builds muscle, but excess protein does not build more muscle. Most people overdo protein, while undervalues other macronutrients, especially fats, doing disservice to themselves.

You can't build muscle without protein. There's going to be other highly negative impact on your body as a whole without protein.

Inb4 rambling about protein powders. That's just powdered food man. If you prefer chicken or beef, go eat that instead.

The two bolds are contradicting. Is protein not a macro?

Also, in regards to macros which are needed and macros which are not technically needed FOR ALL HUMANS. Two of the macros are ESSENTIAL. They are proteins and fats. Carbs are not essential (as in, you don't necessarily need them to live and not die).

Interesting article explaining that sports nutrition companies are using actual verification of quality rather than the "this will give you big muscles" advertising that was used in the past. Just thought I would share!

Muscle Hypertrophy builds muscle period..............protein and other nutients helps build muscles only if there is a need to produce more contractile proteins or repair damaged tissues, such as from wounds, blunt trauma, and burns.

You need protein to grow, im not arguing that. its like you need gas to drive your car, but filling gas wont necessarily make your car run or go faster

This is a semantics argument, is it not? Most of us understood what BlueRev meant. Of course protein on its own doesn't build muscle. But training, in the absence of adequate protein, won't result in muscle gain, which is what BlueRev was talking about.

You need protein to stay alive. It's an ESSENTIAL macro nutrient. You can't live without protein.

As for protein building muscle or not, your body is constantly breaking down and rebuilding. Just bones alone, IIRC, every few years, you essentially have a new skeleton in terms of the actual bones. Bone turnover is roughly 10% per year.
