    1984 Acorn Electron. Cost my dad £200 and i had to share it with my brother (it was all we got that Christmas). Got completely lost in Elite (vector-graphics based game).

    I ALMOST, but never did, spend almost $1200 for a MAC, around 1985/1986. My father had not retired yet, and he asked me what I needed it for. I told him, "To manage bills, budget money, etc....", to which he replied, "You need a computer to do this???!!" . Seriously, I dropped the idea after hanging up the phone. But yes, times have changed, and I've probably bought more goods on-line than that of anyone in this forum...since the early 90's.

    As for the VCR's, Dave? Yeah, Beta machines (superior to VHS) cost at least, $800 back then.
