You're not very good at this are you?
My lifts are weak you'll disregard what I say.
My lifts are strong you'll still disregard what I say.
All I'm getting is hand waiving from you, sparky; it also doesn't matter what I lift cause I'm not the only one with my opinion in this thread or this section; you lost several pages ago.'Prior to the Department of Education, there was no illiteracy'

Guys with elite genetics can get away with a lot of things
I mean even the current 94kg champion ilya ilyin basically took a few years off after his 08 win from full time training to party and he came back last year to win the world championships and put on a historic performance this olympics. So yes its possible the rules don't apply to some people, its just the majority of teams right now implement pulls of some type so take that for what you want.
I think strength development is extremely important for beginner/intermediate lifters and heavy pulls will help with this process. Once you are already at an extremely high level you could probably get away with not doing as heavy pulls or accessory lifts often but even then some teams recommend it heavily like the Chinese -who have had the best team by a large margin for years-

If the utility of pulls is dependent on body type, what do you think about the success of the Bulgarians, who traditionally have done very little or no pulls. They have produced world champions and Olympic medalists in every weight class (something the Chinese can't say yet), for several generations now. And their lifters have had various physiques, tall, short, long legs, short legs, etc. If none of them did pulls regardless of their body shape, how do you feel about that?

good lord almighty im sick of this argument being thrown around. the people who never did pulls were the top %1 who weren't getting any stronger and were basically beaten to death on a daily basis by "the butcher" and revived with substances. Abadjiev himself said the way he trained his elite athletes would not be the way he trained beginners. Everyone in O-lifting must do squats, pulls, presses, and the like at some point or a serious part of training is being left out. Iskau pleeeeez lock this thread before another horse has to die.

Could it be that everyone in this thread is just thinking too hard? Mother of god, they're picking weight up off the ground, moving it a total of 2-3 feet and setting it down again. In either case, (whether beneficial or detrimental) this will not be the difference in a champion athlete.
Best gym lifts: S 430 / B 385 / D 480 both C&S

Not to derail the thread here, but you say "beaten to death and revived with substances" as if that's a uniquely Bulgarian thing. You don't think the Chinese go through hundreds of lifters to produce champions? Guys who can't make it to the top and carry injuries for the rest of their life? Come on, that's something all athletes go through.

Again, not to start a different topic, but two things:
1- The nickname "The Butcher" was coined by Abadjievs's political opponents in the Bulgarian coaching ranks. That's hardly an unbiased source-these guys were jealous of his success and wanted to discredit him.
2-The Kazakh team trains with a 3-lift system, or at least Ilya Ilin does. I assume the Azerbaijani team does as well, since Zlatan Vanev is the coach. Plus the Bulgarians themselves, obviously.
